discussion Tonys revell 1/72 air ambulance

Heres my contribution to daves GB, the Revell 1/72 medicopter 117 - in the limited edition East Anglian air ambulance boxing . Its basically the complete 117 medicopter kit but with extra decals and an outer sleeve with the photo and colour / decal schemes on . It looks a nice little kit , nice easy paint job for a change ! I say easy but yellow is a notoriously difficult colour to use , all too often being very translucent and requiring many coats. I think i might get a car aerosol and just give it a blast , ive done it before with yellow and it gives a good finish . Heres the pics

Tony i think a yellow humbroll rattle can will do the trick an give you a very good finish as has been stated that its yelllow anyway good luck should be a nice little build

FWIW, I’d also just find an aerosol of car paint in the right colour for a model like this. It’s bound to be some standard RAL yellow, I suspect.

Ive used Fiat Broom yellow in the past jakko ( Hycote aerosol ) , just blasted straight out of the can , gives a lovely finish and doesnt obliterate all the detail , as for if its the right shade - its yellow so its near enough for me !

Made a start on this , got the cockpit painted up and assembled , didnt go to town on it as not much will be seen after it goes together . Decals used for the instrument panels and I painted the moulded belts blue just for a bit of colour, dont know if its right but hey ho.

That is small and yellow Tony and looking good. Tiny compared to the box. How's the fit as I can see some sanding coming up at the seam line.

Fits not bad but not brilliant either richard , for example the two fuselage halves dont have any locating pins whatsoever . It looks like an old tooling as theres also a bit of flash in places and some hefty seam lines to clean up .

Yup...symptoms of old Revell molds.

You've done a fine job with the cockpit, Tony. I do like the blue belts. Even if they weren't blue they should have been. Fits OK too :thumb2:

Seams cleaned up ok , didnt need any filler and the two engine covers have now been fitted . Ive cleaned up and started assembling the rotor head and blades , this will be placed on loose last off. Ive been looking at the transparencies and dry fitting the windscreen ( not a stellar fit ! ) , all the windows are fitted from the outside so it might make painting a little easier .

Great job Tony. They had one of these at an air ambulance organisation I used to work for an age ago. I have walk around photos somewhere; if you need any sing out, but it looks like you have it well and truly sorted
