Nice work on the turnbuckles. Very fiddly, but worth the effort.Afternoon all,
I could have sworn I had posted an update, but it appears I didn't. Damn, old age I guess!!!
Tim and Jakko, I guess AB's are like autos and once you own one, you stick with it. Or if you buy another model, it takes time to get used to it. I have found while using my Iwata the second time, a way to hold it nicely in my hand. It surprised me and worked well. Now, I just have to control my fat forefinger on it for spray control. I have also looked at trigger AB's, but will stick with what I have for now and save money. They ain't cheap, for sure....
I've always been mad Buddy and you know that all too well. Thanks and clever.......Maybe sometimes...
Thanks too Bro! It's been an interesting learning experience for sure...
Much appreciated Paul! I don't know about award winning, but I can tell you about more grey hairs though! Do you have the same kit in the stash? Are you planning on giving it a go? Would be cool if you do....
Uhh, Mr. Andrew, I'm afraid I can't say where your meds be or the last time you took some of them, Sir!!! I can say that I truly realize that your Laundering studies do have priority over a lot of things at this time. My build included...I'm retired and cannot keep up with half of the builds on this forum.
I firmly believe, once you have finished your studies and have made enough money, you should go into politics and become PM of the Insel. The only thing to consider would be finding a salon that could give you the same hairstyle as the old PM and Donald Trump. You Sir, would win the election hands down!!!...Thanks so much my friend for the kind words and compliments. If I could, I would definitely give you my vote.......
Now go and hit the books!!!...
Last week, I used the Iwata to spray a bit of white on the tail piece and found a way to hold it comfortably in my hand. Making the masks took 79 times longer than shooting the paint on it,
I cleaned it up a little and will have to go through the same nonsense of masking it over when I paint the fuselage. Luckily, the white paint comes off the rigging easily. A couple more pics,
I'm hoping when I glue the fin steering thing to the fin, the decal will not look so bad and off kilter...
After getting back from the show this weekend, I decided to drive on and play around with the rigging. Having the Gaspatch turnbuckles and the brass tubing from Albion, I played a bit. The turnbuckles are not correct, but the ones I wanted, weren't in stock. These will be cut/trimmed down and should work fine,
Threading the rigging through the 2mm long x 0.5mm tubing pieces and through the turnbuckle was pretty simple and easy. Getting the rigging back through the tubing was a Beatch and a half. Lots of patience and a steady hand paid off and we now have these,
These are for the main rigging on the wings to the fuselage. The strut rigging is shorter. The turnbuckles will be cut off about 3-4 mm from the open eyelets. They fit into the pre-made holes for them on the wings and fuselage. The rigging will be secured with a dab of CA on the tubing and the rest nipped off. More details of my plan when we get to that step...
That's all for today folks. Stammtisch shortly and I have a 1/1 project on the table to do too!!! Thanks again for your support and have a good one!!!...

Thanks Boss! When the temps and winds get better, then the real interesting part comes...Spraying the fuselage camo!!! I'm scared...This is a really interesting build.
Love the decals on the wings.
Haha!!! You killin' me Bro! Be lucky this thing couldn't fly all the way to your house...I'd drop a stick grenade in the garden to wake your butt up!!!Nice invasion stripes Allen!! :thumb2:
Thanks too, Tony! If only I knew what I was doing, things would be a whole lot better. I've been staring at some microscopic decals that go on the stick grenades, that I want to drop on Rick, and......I'm going blind! You busy this week???...Super progress allen the stripy tail looks real neat. Keep up the outstanding work , cheers tony
Greatly appreciated Jim! Actually, I'm still playing around with them though...There's always something...All I can say Alan is a great big "WELL DONE". You must be very happy that the decals are on and look so good.
Thanks Brother and it was great to chat with you this morning. You take care of yourself and heal up...Love that white on the tail, some fine spraying Dude 1.
Thanks too Tim! I just hope they turn out the way I need them too and the CA does what I want it to. I hope you are feeling better...Nice work on the turnbuckles. Very fiddly, but worth the effort.
You're too kind Andy and thanks for having faith in me my friend! You know well, I don't do wing thingy's, but this is fun!!!Haven't had a catch up with this one for a while.
Those tail markings are very striking indeed,a cracking job mate, love it.![]()
Thank you so much Ian! I don't know about sterling work though...More like tin and brain cramps sometimes, I'm afraid...Just caught up Allen some sterling work going on.
That's great Andrew and I'm glad your studies are going well. Support from all sides is even better. Back to politics, if you look at Andy's Priest build post, you will see his current hair style. I'm sure he could give you the name of his hairdresser and you could get an appointment.......Thanks my friend and all the best for your laundering skills studies...WIBBLE!!!
Normal service has now been resumed now that I found my meds!!
Books have been hit, in fact have just got off a three hour online session....really not as bad as it sounds...HONESTLY. They structure it very well but best of all it was presented by someone I know from my time in law enforcement, so it was good to see a familiar face. I'm lucky enough to get good support from work and to they give me study leave rather than me have to take it out of holiday allowance.
A for a combination between Boris' haystack and Trump's comb-over.......doesn't even bear thinking about out! But pleased to hear you would get my vote should I ever run for office!!
Love the rigging by the way, that's coming on beautifully.
ATB.
Andrew
Oh my God! Is that Matron approaching with a big box (and what looks suspiciously like a syringe ...)?Mr Dewire
Just had a catch-up old chap. Apologies for the tardiness but ones studies have not been assistful in keeping up with this most splendid of kit assemblages.
The markings of all varieties are most delightful and one must be congratulated on their most satisfactory application.
One cannot wait for the wingy bits to be attached to fuselage thingy.
Keep up the most spiffingly excellent of work.
Tally ho old chap!
Andrew
PS.... Can you tell me where I put my meds....I seemed to have misplaced them..... Most disconcerting....
Very long ago, there was an article in FineScale Modeler about how to spray lozenge camouflage using templates to repeat the pattern. I could dig it up if you want.Spraying the fuselage camo!!! I'm scared...
Thanks for the offer Jakko. I, myself have many years of FSM on hand. If you could remember the year, I might have the issue you mention. There is a Modeler in Denmark that also made a template for the naval lozenge camo and it seemed to work well too. Appreciate it!!!...Very long ago, there was an article in FineScale Modeler about how to spray lozenge camouflage using templates to repeat the pattern. I could dig it up if you want.
I did warn you about selling so much !Thanks for that and the pic of the cover, Jakko. Yea, a bit dated and I do remember that month's issue. I'll take a look in my collection to see if I still have it. I did sell a few years' worth a while ago on evilbay...Thanks again...

Great work as always Allen. Going to look fantastic when it’s done. Glad you managed to recover the frosty coating though…..Evening all and a Happy Easter too,
Did you ever have a day where the brain farts ruled? I have, and last Thursday was a doozy. I wanted to shoot a matt coat on the wings to seal the decals, so I could attach the rigging to the top wings. I mixed up a mix of Tamiya X-21 flat coat with some X-20A thinner and went at it. I tested it on my scrap plastic sheet first, and then shot the underside of the bottom wings. The first fart was when I remembered I hadn't masked the strut and rigging holes, so I stopped. Luckily, I had only sprayed the two pieces. I took a look at the two bottom wings that I had sprayed and we had this,
They looked like it was -30° in the booth...DOH!!!...The second fart was I had forgotten that the X-21 was to be mixed with their gloss paint colors to make them matt. It's not a matt coat like AV or other brands of matt. Ok, I figured I have to get rid of the frost and gently rubbed a finger over it and it rubbed off in a powdery dust. Cool!!! I used a stiff brush and a piece of damp paper towel to get rid of it. Lucky me, and the decals survived my brain fart. I cleaned the AB, and then later, went to Stammtisch...(beer needed)
I went back to the rigging, CA'd the one set of ends, and trimmed them. I also made the rigging between the main struts and CA'd them onto the tops of the struts,
Only one dried a bit wonky, but I can live with it. I purposely made one strut set with shorter brass tubing so I could remember their part number when attaching them. I had to remove the sprue bits to paint them and didn't need another fart.
This kit seems to have a never-ending count of small parts that need painting. So, I drove on with those,
The observer had a choice of grenades/bombs at his disposal to throw while in flight. The stick grenade rack held 10 of them. The 1.9kg bombs were held in a rack holding 4 or 6 of them. Each stick grenade has a data decal that has to be stuck on them. They are tiny, but actually have readable info on them. Too damn small for my optivisor to see what they say though. On with the nasty,
With Micro Set and Sol, I got them to settle on the handles. I have to knock off their shine and finish painting the grenade heads in the morn. I have to cut the bombs off of the racks as I only need 6 of them for the rack that mounts on the fuselage. A bunch of other little nonsense and painting has been going on too. One step forward, two steps back seems to be the story here lately...
More to come, sooner or later! I hope everyone had a good holiday and didn't go crazy with the chocolate eggs and such. Thanks, as always, for your support and have a great Monday...
Prost
