That, and the fact she was sent to do a job for which she was never designed……….to sit in a line of battle and slug it out against battleships…….she was a battle cruiser, basically a big gunned light cruiser…..a white elephant of a design, outdated by the end of the First World War.
Good job Spurious, Curious, and Outrageous were not around in their original condition, some fool would probably have put them up against Yamato…..
Too true Tim, if she had the major reconstruction in the mid 30's I believe Hood would have emerged a true fast battleship, Drach on YT has interesting videos on both her loss and a what if she survived one.

I dont think she had the freeboard to be able to take the necessary armour to be honest Bob. She was already known as the Navy’s biggest submarine. Any more weight and she would have been awash in everything except dead calm conditions.
Best use they could have made of her would have been to strip her of all the heavy and most of the medium armament and then turn her into a large flak defence unit to form the nucleus of a future Pacific carrier group.
Trouble is, she was big and pretty so they used her as a mobile status symbol.

I finally got hold of the paint for Bismarck. Note the new size of the tins. Now 30ml. Glad that they did not make them higher. So they still fit in the drawer.

Thank you Ian!! I will be checking that out when I pop up from me slumbers in about 6 or 7 hrs. ;)
