Vent: I made a model plane that was really crap

Hello All, I try to keep things positive but I just finished a model that I gave up on half way through because it wasn't what I expected. I purchased it early in my evolution because I liked the box art and before I researched models prior to purchase. My lack of patience took over, problems...

How long to make a standard model??

I just want to thank everyone for their comments and since I am new (currently just looking at airplanes and trying miniatures), I never considered the depth and breadth of all the types of flavour of modelling. I am always trying to improve and try new things that I see in Youtube videos and...

How long to make a standard model??

Hi All, Just wondering how long it takes more experienced people to do a real job on a model. I am far away from where I want to be since I haven't even hit 12 months yet. It takes me on average for research, build and painting about 15 to 20 hrs; I am only now starting to get into...

Pre/Post Shading question with type of airbrush

Hi All, I've started looking at doing pre/post shading on my airplane models, I have a H&S Evolution 0.45 and 0.28 and have found it to be excellent. However, while watching some YouTube videos on this subject I have noticed that they are doing it without an end cap with an exposed needle...

Zero Days since last model purchased : I lasted 69 days

As the title says, I lasted a total of 69 days until those damn people at Jadlam sent me an email with a special offer of some Meng Dune models which I think are fantastic. Bought a total of five after telling myself that the stash was already too big and needed to be culled before buying any...

I have to change my brand loyalty ...

I'm afraid its worse than that. I am looking to turn a bedroom into a display room for my die-cast and personally made plastic models and miniatures. I'm costing it out at the moment and I am on a campaign to get it allowed by the immediate family but I know they will go along with it. I don't...

Nerdy Scale Model Spreadsheet, what to include?

Hi Dave, I did consider a MS database since I'm fairlyish OK with Access programming but I have gone on a non-corpo kick recently and have gone Linux with Libre Office. The spreadsheet option is just as good as MS but I get the problem. Knowing me, I too would probably end up programming more...

Nerdy Scale Model Spreadsheet, what to include?

I have one for my paints as well since I was doubling up, especially since I have a damn library of over 250 at the moment. I am also going to start cataloguing things like glues, sprays and airbrush parts because I have a daft amount of spares at the moment and when I purchase something I am...

Nerdy Scale Model Spreadsheet, what to include?

The only info I add is the cost, date of purchase, room of storage, shelf number and I use box number as a unique index code. Everything else including the handy hyperlink is from the .csv file from Scalemates. Everything else is supplied by Scalemates and its easy to find the model you want to...

Nerdy Scale Model Spreadsheet, what to include?

Hi there Peter. I think I was the culprit mentioning spreadsheets for controlling my stash. I actually use Scalemates are a database mechanism since it can export your stash as a .csv file while I import into excel and take the updated lines and copy to my control sheet, I have attached a...

I have to change my brand loyalty ...

Hi All, I've only been doing modelling since June 2025 and am very new to the hobby but I have a 'type' since I did a pivot table of the data from Scalemates (thank you Scalemates). It only happened with Eduard because of their overtrees (see other post) but I am definitely going to branch out...

Eduard overtrees, am I in the minority?

Makes sense Ian. Tbh, I find that doing it repeatedly in small batches improves my familiarity with the model and makes a better build and allows me to experiment at a low cost. At the moment, mottling is kicking my butt but its the journey and not the destination lol.

Eduard overtrees, am I in the minority?

Yeah, I found its a way of practicing my patience when assembling because I have issues with carpal tunnel and neuropathy. So when I want to practice mottling, pre/post shading etc, its handy spending £10 on a model instead of £30. I've done it three times so far and I don't do them straight in...

Eduard overtrees, am I in the minority?

True, although I do make my own decals as well (obviously not as good) by scanning the Eduard decals and using some diluted Solvaset (this stuff is rocket fuel). Note of caution when using Solvaset, use it diluted - the undiluted solution will actually destroy the decals (yup - found that one...

Eduard overtrees, am I in the minority?

Hello All, I've only been doing this hobby properly since Jun last year but it really has gotten a grip of me. Although I am struggling to control the increase of my stash, one thing always inflates it and that's over-trees from Eduard. The quality of the models is fantastic and for those who...

    Hello from a relative newbie

Thank you to everyone for the reception and comments. I do have some worries about showing my current level of work when I compare it to those I see and it is daft of me because I have only been doing it for nine months at this point. I will be posting some pics and looking for advice pretty...

What to do with completed models?

Hi All, I have joined this hobby since Jun last year and have completed 40 models so far although only the last three models are worth displaying. That said, what do people here do with their old models? Bin them, store them or something else? Just curious.
