    Tamiya GB...Rules and chat thread

Thanks Paul - yes that's all I've done and minimally so. I've not painted the seats, IP's or anything else other than the cockpit tub and side panels, and even then they need drybrushing and decals etc.

    Tamiya GB...Rules and chat thread

Ladies and Gents - just a quick question. How set in the stone is the 'not started' rule? About the only Tamiya kit I have in the stash and fancy building at the moment is their 1/48th F-14A Tomcat, the trouble is I assembled the cockpit a few years back, and started some basic painting on the...

    Personal issues

Sorry to hear about your phone, and that you're having problems. I suspect we've all been there from time to time - just take care of yourself first and the rest will follow.

    Greetings!

Sorry for the stupidly late reply - I've been pretty busy over the last month! :censored: Yeah he was is good egg my uncle, I don't know how quite how long he was in but it was longer than 3 years - did a tour in NI and went to Canada and Cypress and has some pretty good stories. He always...

Airfix 1/72 (old tool) Meteor III.

Thanks Gents, but that's not my build - it's Thunderstrucks (and very nice it looks too). Mine's still very much in the 'assembly' stage LOL! (actually filling and sanding at present!)

    Movie night

Interesting discussion - I do like watching the odd movie but I'm more into anything prior to 2000. I just can't seem to get into modern films and TV - it's been a long time since I fancied watching anything at the cinema.

    Movie night

Cool! I like the old stuff but less keen on the newer ones. I watched the 'Dirty Dozen' a few days ago.

    Greetings!

Me? No Sadly. My uncle growing up used to call them that and it stuck. He was in the Green Jackets in the 70's/80's. I've also worked with a few ex-Army guys over the years that called them the same - and very nice they are too!

    Pete's Vulcan

I'm really surprised they didn't include a decal for the rear panel - but like you said, I doubt any of it will be seen, or not, as the case may be. The cockpit loos great though - nice work.

    Looking for help

LOL! I'm SHOCKED you would say that! 😂 I've built loads of classic Airfix kits over the years, I really must try that one one day just to see how bad it is....

Airfix 1/72 (old tool) Meteor III.

Thanks Joe - it's not a bad little kit. From what I've heard it's less of a faff than the new tool kit, but I've not actually build that one yet so I'll reserve judgement.

Airfix 1/72 (old tool) Meteor III.

It's a putty, not unlike bluetac, that is high in tungsten content - it's used for fishing weights. It's slightly sticky and I've used it on a couple of builds now to add nosewight - it's easier than gluing in liquid gravity. Amazon link.

    Looking for help

There's literary a whole work of 'stuff' out there - but the basics are the same for any genre. If you're into cars, it might also be worth learning how to spray paint with spray cans (most model companies like Humbrol and Tamiya do a range of these designed for modelling) and masking using...

    New to scale modelling!

Weathering - that's an art form in itself (that I am completely rubbish at and still learning). Still, you can do the basics - you can get all manner of weathering 'stuff' from mud to dust and rust pigments. If you have access to chalk pastels and oil-paints you can make you own. Or even just...

    First build work in progress

I wouldn't beat yourself up - I've been modelling for years and still balls-up clear parts. I doubt the ones in the Landrover are the best fit in the world anyway. One of the great things about this hobby is you never stop learning. This is good stuff to use - Glue-N-Glaze. There are other...
