    Spotted on the Bar

Our locals have a selection of rubber-backed bar mats; one of these is a Greene King example showing a rugby payer on a (majority) of 'grass'. I've just salvaged some very useful sections of this 'grass' to create some very useful bases! See below ... Steve

Now that's what I call value for money!

Only £50 in my paw; all still bagged up and complete even though there's some superficial box damage. Christmas has come early! Steve

    Advice on US tracks please

I don't usually build US AFVs but I'm thinking of building my Tamiya M40 SPG that has sat in my stash for a while; this will sound ridiculous to some but are the main track elements metal or some hard rubber compound? I haven't found any reference to their composition in any of my reference...

If you thought the Carpet Monster is bad ...

I've finally got time to get back on the bench to carry on with my MiniArt Mercedes LS 1.5 t for the truck GB. We're also looking after a neighbour's small puppy for a while. Left the bench to answer the house 'phone and said puppy somehow got into the cave and chewed two important (and...

Only nearly a year late! P51D Mustang from Lee's P51 GB

Apologies to Lee for not completing on time - life and family interrupted my intention to complete on time - still, it is said the road to Hell is paved with good intentions! This is for my mate's 50th -he's a P51 nutcase and wanted one on his desk; some cajoling and quite a few pints later I...

    Airborne's One and Half tonner

Finally managed some free time from household major revamps so can start this build. As stated earlier it's the MiniArt L1500S I.5 ton truck; moulded in a softish grey plastic the kit contains a plethora of fine detail (including'furniture', crates and 'carpets'! 2 small PE frets, clear plastic...

    Info please

I've recently come into possession of these with a promise of more to come in various sizes; they're slightly magnetised and already proving very useful in conjunction with set squares etc. I'm intrigued as to whether I can find a definitive answer as to their original purpose! Are there any...

    Spot the Mistake!

One of my local pubs was next door to a RAF/USAAF base during the war and has a small display of contemporary photographs. This one troubles me though! Steve

    A Question of Scale

I found this in my stash (from way back when); my wife went into raptures and began reciting various formulae - weird Maths Graduate! Steve

    More Apologies

Further to Tony's post (which came as a shock as I was just in the process of using the same title!) I am about to start the truck GB - which I promise to complete on time! My apologies are to the following: Peter - Spitfire build - due completion November '22 Lee - P51 build - due completion...

Pete's wheeled cargo movers GB. Aug - Dec 2023. Chat thread.

Reference my last here are the sprue shots - lots of fine detail including crates and furniture items (!). Seriously hoping I will finish this build on time - should do as the garden makeover is 99% complete! Comprehensive decal sheet but, surprisingly, no instrument decals! Steve

    "School boy hobby"?!

I only have this brass Swan-Morton knife from my early days Dave, tool stashes were certainly much less complex then, weren't they!

'A Gentleman in Khaki' - Boer War Soldier

Well, not good news for Jake as he's going to reside on the Shelf of Doom for a while; had started a little more basic painting since our return from Ireland and decided to turn my attention to the rifle - created a trigger but then the trigger guard disappeared; so, swore a little and turned...

    Making Buckles

I'm struggling to make realistic buckles; I've managed to make 'C' types, although it's hideously complex, but I really need advice on making rectangular open-types such as Wehrmacht officers belt buckles. Anybody with any advice/methods would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (Mostly working at...

    Lead Wire

I have a device from RP tools specifically for making handles; trap the wire between the two layers and use the appropriately sized 'step', then fold down each side, simples!

'A Gentleman in Khaki' - Boer War Soldier

Well, here's a brief update: much digging in the garden, replacing 6.5 tons of grass with (potentially) 4 tons of stone - grass doesn't fare well due to limited sun and a sub-base of London and Kellaways Clay! (Yuk!) I think this is the most impermeable clay sub-base possible so l now have to...
