i was looking at the meng ford gt in 1/12 scale im tempted
Looked at the 2 versions of that - pre coloured or paint yourself.
There's a YT video from Metro Hobbies ? in Australia comparing the unpainted and the Trumpeter/ Magnifier/ No name brand. Massive difference in costs (got mine for Approx £76 delivered) and the overall shape seems more accurate.
The Meng kit is also clip and screw together construction.
Be interested in what you choose.

Well the roof and rear spoiler decals completely disintegrated when being masked up to paint the vents etc. So after whole week of masking, matching colours and more touching up it looks acceptable. So cleaning the spray booth and filters I am prepping for clearcoat.
Wheels have received a light wash and dry brushing with a matt coat on the tyres.

I can't see the defects in the photos, you should be very happy with the work you have done. Looking forward to seeing the GT40 shine

More than acceptable, that looks immaculate from my chair. Lovely paint work Stefan.

Please put me wise!
Are there just 2 different 1/12th scale kits of this car that were originated by Trumpeter and Meng?
So which ones are the re pops of them under different brand names?
And most importantly, which original is the more accurate? The Trumpeter or Meng version.

Hi there, right here goes.
Meng do 2 versions of the kit, one is repainted the other bare plastic. They are both very close to being a snap/ screw together kit with lots of screwed together parts. They also have very poor representation of the braided hoses and, according to more knowledgeable people than me, the overall body shapes and dimensions are not super accurate. Apparently they are easier kits to assemble and do include the distributor and wiring but I'm not sure if decals for cars 1 & 2 are included. They apparently do have the red teardrop decals for the front clamshell and possibly glazing masks.
The Trumpeter original kit has been repopped by Magnifier and also a no name brand which I have got and are essentially the same kit and moulding.. Between the 3 versions the major differences are Ford branding is not present on the no name kit, the Trumpeter only has decals for the 2 car whilst the other 2 have both 1 & 2 decals but the decals are absolute rubbish. The overall appearance is reportedly more accurate but no distributor or starter motor is included. The PE parts are very good and braided hoses ok if treated with hairspray prior to cutting but must be painted silver. They are more challenging to assemble but, in my opinion, that makes it more satisfying. All 3 have much too many parts in chrome plating which dissolves in seconds in bleach.
The Meng pre coloured kit is around the £400 mark and the non painted approx, £250. The Trumpeter and Magnifier kits don't seem to be available any longer but the no name brand can be found for around £100 to £120. I paid around £75 delivered around 3 years ago.
HTH.
