If ever I could be tempted by an Aircraft in that scale, this could be the one. Thanks for that Al !

That's the old Revell 1/32 Mosquito your thinking of.
It did have airfix on the box maybe it's a rebox I don't know , It was about two years ago I saw it when I had just got back into modelling again I think cost about £120 and that was why I didn't buy it I remember saying to the wife at the time shame it's airfix because of me memories of building kits 30 years ago :)

Could it have been the Airfix 1/24 kit.probably was at that price

Sorry for continually posting more links but Airfix have apparently confirmed it'll be about £90 and here are some more pics. The engine detail is amazing and a massive leap forward for Airfix

It does look good and although it's pricey I think it's worth it and you can't put a price on enjoyment so I'm going to keep an eye out for it :)

Not wanting to dash hopes but the owners of a local model shop said they got a very close look at the model and said it was very gappy and the usual poorish fit, they also said the sprues stuck on the wall had sanding marks where it looked like they'd cleaned it up.

Apparently this has been mentioned on some other sites, I wouldn't know I don't frequent them.

I can't see any way that the sprues could be sanded. Serious amount of surface detail there and would make it very hard to hide. He's probably miffed that it was not a Spitfire or Beaufighter...

Al thanks for the link you can really see the work thats gone into this one, right down to the buckled sheeting of the panels.

Can I just have a motor and cock pit? I got room for those.

Don't worry Colin. They're probably the same old internet warriors that lambast every kit that isn't made by the high and mighty Tamigawa factories. They probably found a rivet 0.0000001mm out of place and that makes the kit unbuildable lol

Looks very nice but you guys without kids had better get busy. Methinks you may need to sell a couple into slavery to afford this! Has anyone heard how much it may be?

Gern

PS Apologies Allyne - didn't see your post. If the quality is what everyone reckons, then £90 sounds amazingly cheap. You can pay more than that for a 1/48 Tamiya Spit!

Don't shoot the messenger :) :) :)

OK I'll be more specific ... He said the sprues looked like they'd been cleaned up, i.e. the surface wasn't smooth, there were tool marks like it had been sanded flat.

He was probably miffed it wasn't an rc boat cos that's all one bloke builds :)

Another quote from him '' if it wasn't for all the guys coming in the shop with money burning holes in their pockets like school kids ... I wouldn't bother selling plastic kits''

Those of us that do not have kids can still afford to buy stuff! ;-)

I have heard £90 which for its size and detail is pretty fair... How much did the Javlin in 1/48 cost? £50...

Ian M (trying to save up for a 1/32 mossy!)

Theyre like that with their boats and trains definitly :) :)

I should have added that the aircraft does look quite tasty with all the detail, I'd love to have a bash at something this complex but finances and skill would be where I lacked luster I'm afraid.

What are the 1/24 aircraft like ... the ones around 40 quid, do they compare at all??

TBH Colin the only things that I have seen that come close to this are the Maru whotsits that go at £150+ for a 1/32 scale. As far as I know only Airfix and Trumpy make 1/24 wing things.

(in injection plastic).

Well I prefer 90 quid to 150 :)

Just a lot to pay for me to make a b**ls up of it.

I've built the 1/24th spitfire in the 1970's. This is a big improvement. I think I'll also put this on my xmas list. If I get it, I'll have now where to display it

I'd be wary of judging the kit that will go on sale from pictures of the test sprues. I'd also be surprised if they hadn't cleaned up the mouldings for a presentation.

It looks good to me, I even noticed some lap joints represented correctly between skins.

I wonder how much of that lovely detail on the wing surfaces would have been filled and smoothed on service aircraft during the war ?

Cheers

You beat me to it Steve. I've always found it sad that there seem to be so many who are happy to find fault in anything Airfix do. I think the fact that they have even been able to put this together is testament to thier drive, initiative and detemination to keep Airfix going forward. The fact that they are now creating models to compete with Tamiya is briliant to me and gives me hope that the future will bring even more british based models from a company that we all cut our teeth with and who started many of us off on our modelling paths.

I would like to see them do a complete retooling of the original 1/24th scale kits to this standard but if they don't then I hope we get more Typhoons, or 262s, or 110s etc...etc.. As for opinions from those who are so narrow minded as to quote the usual poorish fit from Airfix, they won't stop me buying from Airfix, but they might stop me buying from them!

I think we all started on Airfix back in the day and I must say that then the kits were poorly made but having looked at the new tool stuff you can see that they are moving away from this into some very tasty kits and I always judge a kit for myself and not what people say in reviews
