I decided to finish it in the white version from No.835 SQN FAA, based on HMS Nairana in 1944. I will not be using the kit decals for this one, but an alternative from an Xtradecal sheet (not a D-Day scheme). The only difference will be the serial number and code letter.


The cockpit is where, as usual, construction begins:

Lesson learned from the GB kit. I ignored Revell and attached the centre section to the fuselage first:

The result is a cleaner connection between the wing and fuselage and no ugly steps on the underside. Definitely a big difference as only a little amount of filler and sanding was required:

The canopy, as indicated in my GB thread, has the framing moulded on the inside, so decal paper will be used later to make the framing. Decal paper has the advantage of being able to paint the same colour and varnished to the same finish. Primed alongside the GB kit:

Cannons fitted, detail sanding completed, Sky (Humbrol 90) sprayed on the underside and masked off for the main white colour:

Masking removed, gear doors and legs fitted:

The nose panel was then masked off and Dark Sea Grey (Humbrol 27) and Dark Slate Grey (Humbrol 224) painted on.


Propeller, exhausts and wheels fitted and small details painted in and touch ups completed:

Not so much busy as not having been able to post updates due to internet issues. But yes, now three projects on the go, these two Hurricanes and a Tiger.

That's a cracker joe , ive bilt the RAF version which is the same kit but without the Arrester hook

Great progress Joe , the white scheme looks very nice, looks like me and you are the stragglers in this race , bringing up the rear. Only about 5 weeks left , its a ( leisurely ) sprint to the finish for us both !!

The GB Hurricane build is in a similar state, but yet it will be a leisurely sprint to the finish for the two snails in the race

All glossed and ready for decals. I'm abandoning the codes from the Revell sheet and using an Xtradecal scheme. NF698 coded 7D instead of the kit NF700/7T. Found out that NF698 7D scored the final Hurricane aerial victory of the Second World War when it shot down a Junkers 290 coded 9V+GK on 26 July 1944 whilst being flown by a Sub Lieutenant Sam Mearns.

Thanks Ian. Yeah, I probably should have just done two Under a Tenners rather than splitting them. Oh well, here we are.

The Xtradecal decals were excellent and went on with no problem or fuss. Nearly on the home straight now.

Awaiting the Humbrol Matt Cote to dry before removing the canopy masking. The paper in front is the pre-painted decal paper which was prepared using the varnishes used on the aircraft:

Decal paper applied to the canopy. Had trouble with this as I did on the Group Build version. Not entirely happy with it as I have noticed the windshield has a gap. May have to live with that unfortunately:
