Thunderbird 2 requesting permission to land !

This is my completed SIG build, the F-4E Phantom II, as flown by the USAF's aerobatic display team, The Thunderbirds, circa 1972.

The kit is the 1/72 Fumiji item. The fit was pretty dodgy in places, but the surface detail and undercarriage is very nice, as are the decals, despite their age. Apart from some work to the cockpit / seats, the build is pretty much OOB.

It was a really enjoyable build and good to be part of the SIG. My thanks to Ian for the great subject suggestion and for kicking it all off.

Hope you enjoy the pic's :)

Thanks chaps ! There are a couple of "deliberate" mistakes if you look carefully, but I've skilfully hidden them with my crappy photography !!! I was thinking of adding some resin/pe goodies, but I reckon I'd be at it 'till xmas if I had, so I'm glad I didn't. I've learnt a few lessons and I'm happy with the result, which is what it's all about really.

C'mon Joe, get some paint and stickers on yours and get it parked up !!!

Cheers, Neil

Fantastic result neil! You would never be able to tell that it was such a pig of a kit , it looks superb. The decals are flawless , not an easy job with so many large, curved pieces to get right , 5 stars from me mate , cheers tony

Thanks lads. Tony, as I said, the decals were one of the best bits of the kit. The T-bird on the underside was made of 3 pieces, and even though I know where the joins are, I have trouble finding them !!! I used a fair bit of setting solution, but they really are very good.

Cheers, Neil
