The radio series was great…..slightly different story to the books, which were different to the TV series. Definitely worth a relisten if you can find it.

None.... A parsec is a measurement of distance not time...... Even when doing the Kessell Run :geek:
WELL paul just looked it up on wiki an its 3 .26 lightyrs distance should have thought to look on there in the first place but now i know but thanks for your reply sir

I got mine from Douglas Adams. Fermi and Drake take no account of the distances involved, so are both flawed thought experiments. Deism I will not debate here.
Evolutionary biology is not a theory. The theory was postulated by Darwin in his treatise “On the origin of species by means of natural selection” published in 1859. Since that date this theory has been tested, using both historical record and in real time, following defined scientific methodology. The findings have been peer reviewed by others that truly understand the premise under test, and has not been found wanting. In effect, Darwin put the idea forward, and has been proved him right. It is therefore accepted as scientific fact.
There may be inadvertent errors in this. I typed it while be eaten by a kitten….
It was a theory before it was tested, as is any postulation.... so there! :)

All thought experiments are flawed, otherwise they would be testable and conclusions drawn

Nope, you really can't, it's unassailable

Not even nearly a scientific fact, I'm not sure a modelling forum is the place to debate the many flaws in spontaneous emergence of metabolic process and intelligence but it does violate an 'inalienable' scientific and natural and physical law of the 'second law of thermodynamics', the natural, spontaneous processes are irreversible and always move in a direction that increases the disorder (entropy) of the universe, I believe it was Erwin Schrodinger who described life as 'reverse entropy'

Miko (dropped out of a astrophysics and cosmology degree because modern theory is ridiculous nonsense, I studied philosophy instead which attempts to answer questions science can't)

Who was it that said:

Philosophy is questions you cannot answer and religion is answers you cannot question?

I think it's a quote often attributed to Feynman but I don't really know, I would suggest it was intended to be 'tongue in cheek' but others may argue it has at least some validity
