Hi all;

The latest instalment in my love-hate project of building all of 41(F) Squadron's aircraft in its history, in time for the 100th Anniversary next year!

This is the Adler/AMG Airco DH5. Unloved by its pilots, the DH5 was not a success; it only equipped a few squadrons, and was only with 41 for just 3 months before being replaced by the SE5a. It wasn't helped by the staggerwing design obscuring the 'above and behind', which was exactly where an attack would come from!

A good kit, from the Ukraine, with white metal, PE and styrene in the box, and only £20, with 41 Sqn markings on the decal sheet - marvellous! That said - I still hate rigging...

Wow that looks great! :) The propeller really does look wooden :) ;)

Thanks Blair; the wood effect is easy to do. First, paint brown, then cover over with clear orange; hey presto, wood!

A fine addition to the collection Andy.

How many are you up to now?

Nice piece of work, I know what you mean about rigging it has always put me off biplanes.

Very nice build Andy, great paintwork, looks incredible for a £20 kit.

Slightly off subject, I may have asked you this already but have you already built a 41 squadron harrier? If so is it on here? I have the revell in 1/48 and am thinking of taking it on next build. I might pick your brains a bit if that would be OK?

I haven't built a Harrier, but I have it in the stash to do; I have the Hasegawa one, with the Revell decals.

Beautiful work andy , i love this . Not only is it a fantastic build but its a new aircraft to me , ive never heard of or seen one of these before, looking at the backward staggered wing i can see why!! cheers tony

The hasegawa gr7 and harrier II night Attack are revel kits (or the other way round) reboxed.

I was in a kit store and looked at both the revel was £10 cheaper but exactly the same except the decals where you receive the 41 squadron scheme so it was a no brainer.

I've looked into them and they build into very nice kits (whether mine will be is a different matter), there are some fit issues but what o wanted to ask is, is there any obvious ordinance I could add that would be in keeping with the squadrons use?

Cheers

Take a look on Google, Phil - plenty of shots of the Harrier with 41, showing what stores it carried; that's what Ill be doing!

The current count is around 20 models. The intention is to have a table at Telford next year for the Squadron's 100th Birthday. I've succumbed and will build a Harrier, Tornado F3 and Typhoon, even though, for me, the Squadron ceased to exist in 2006 with the demise of the Jaguar; I don't count Reserve squadrons as real ones! That said, I will NOT be building a Tornado GR4 - it's a bomber, and this is 41(Fighter) Squadron!!!

That's beautiful, Andy. The rigging looks great, and the 'wood', and the PC10 colour looks spot on to me.

The revell Harriet (hasegawa plastic) builds into a nice model. Look forward to seeing your version of it.
