Airborne's 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay'

Nice details Steve.

"Recipe for oily water...get a bowl ready, splash some water onto your face, let it dribble off into the bowl, pour contents of bowl onto the Dio. If not oily enough repeat process the next day when your face has sufficient oil build up..."

Seriously I'd like to see your oily water process as well...looking forward to the new tip.

Cheers,
Wabble

Very nice work on the boat Steve. Really looks the part 👍. Oily water is going to be a real challenge, so hope it works for you. Might be worth looking back at some of Ron Spanner’s stuff….he’s a bit of a watermeister on the quiet….

I'm currently undertaking trials on 'oily water' - painting the base in a loosely mixed nondescript grey/green/brown/black mix then applying thin layers of resin, allowing to cure before applying random thin swirls of clear blue, green and yellows before repeating the process. I've tried tinting the layers with browns and greens and currently Tamiya 'Smoke' seems to be looking good. A friend has directed me to a tutorial on the same subject but I haven't viewed it yet. I'm using the inserts from Ferrero Rocher - along with the boxes and, of course. the sweets they're just a gift that keeps on giving!

photo251197.jpg photo251198.jpg photo251199.jpg Well, almost finished,; I've decided on the final layout (as shown) and need some titivation on the figures and details whilst the base needs finishing. The oily water was more problematic and I've decides to leave it as it stands. Because its going to sit in the cube of the Ikea unit I've lashed up a background to try and put in some perspective, unfortunately the design of the dock kit doesn't allow for the imposition of forced perspective. So here it is - C&Cs welcome as always!

I've no idea why the small pictures exist, I can't remove them so perhaps a wiser Admin would do the honours?

Excellent scene, Steve.

Well thought out with plenty to catch the eye.

The water looks good. I'd be well happy with the surface texture and colour you have achieved.

One very nice diorama. Well done.

Good grief thats come together a treat......stunning work

Youve really turned a vision i to a reality

Definitely a smacking good job on the Dio Steve. Like it's said, much to see and I like the use of seagulls and the kitty.
I dunno much about ports in Europe but I always imagine the cold and wet weather producing lots of algae or black mold stains on the lower edges of structures. It will be a nice contrast of colours popping out in places. Just a suggestion but overall beautiful composition with the three step layering.

Thanks for your comments Wabble, much of the algae staining is green, yellow or black as you suggest - there is some on all the structures already but I'll accent it a little to make it more obvious!
