I've had this kit for a long while. It's a kit that has been built on this forum many times, most notably recently by Tony @yakface so I haven't gone too much into the construction of it.




Doing a little bit of reading about 85 Squadron in France, I discovered that the 85 Squadron hexagon actually had a purpose beyond being a squadron emblem. If the hexagon points were up then it was an aircraft of A Flight; if they were horizontal then B Flight.

Fighter Squadron by Andrew Brookes is a good reference for a history of 85 Squadron during the Second World War.

This boxing of Airfix's Hurricane is for an early fabric-covered wing version, but with a three-bladed DH propeller.

Once the cockpit is completed, construction happens quickly. Some filler was required around the fuselage seam and under the nose where the cowling meets the wing section. Careful masking and sanding preserves the rivet detail.



I have sprayed the dark green where the canopy will cover part of the fuselage.

And before too long the Hurricane has its familiar shape. Just the antenna and pitot tube to go on, then I can get into the painting. The wheel wells and landing gear components have been painted aluminium.



This is a very enjoyable little build so far.

Apart from the piping in the wheel well, which needs a bit of force to fit, this kit practically falls together!

Thanks Chris. Yeah, that bit in the wheel well was indeed a tight fit. If that's the worst that happens then this is a gem from Airfix.
