Very similar to my first build same basic kit, however with lessons learned i have assembled the cabin and cockpit this time i have left out most of the details and just hand painted the cabin area just in case you can see through the windows once fully assembled... added a pilot and co pilot, plus 2 gunners, crew came from the 2 airfix kits however now they have new arms donated by some redundant ground crew ops.
After trial assembly I discovered that the first cabin internal door way clashes with the top gun and so i had to remove this before bonding the 2 fuselage half's together these were again a good match and married up quite welll
now back at work so i imagine progress will slow that been said not sure how these new lock down rules will effect me or the rest of us..
will post more when i have more but in the meantime please stay safe

Hi all,
so after a couple of real winter evenings here in the NE i have managed to stick the wings complete with engines Together, also the tail and its various components these i also managed to prime, the wings not so far but i have dressed it all up and to be hounest really happy with the results so far,
my brother sent me a link to a you tube video of the silent enemy gibraltar 1958 it has a couple of shacks in it from 224sq I think they are meant to be Lancaster‘s but nice to see them....(27 min)

on a slighly more funnier note depending on you sense of humour...since returning to work on the 4th i have cycled back and forth in an effort to reverse all that good will over the festive and these wintery conditions have been a real test trust me... so all was good no issues with the push bike, Monday 5am walking the dog stepped out the door and missed the step fell flat on my face got up brushed down and cracked on... when i got back my wife gave me a hand to get my jumper off as my arm was sore, had a shower went to work by 11 my arm was still throbing and ventured through to our local A&E couple of X-rays later turns out i broke my wrist and elbow total devastated....so now i have a splint on my wrist and a sling for my elbow And can confirm its bloo!,y sore , so not only have i got some time off i cant actually do anything with it,
enjoy my next couple of pics might be awhile before i get the rest done cheers and stay safe Simon View attachment 410749View attachment 410750View attachment 410751E433821B-ACFC-424B-AD8C-A0138BE702D7.jpeg4B0808BC-B7FE-401C-808D-5EB9E61F1768.jpeg0B4D8DB8-08E3-4CA7-8CBB-DBE3E422D998.jpegView attachment 410749View attachment 410750View attachment 410751

Hi Simon, I missed this topic, nice progress looks like a large model :thumb2:

Nice work so far Simon.
Are you a bit of a Rossi fan by any chance?

Hope your arm heals quickly Simon.
Pete
me too really couldn't believe it, but we are lucky we have such a great health service I don't use it often but they deserve all the thanks we can give them
simon

That's a bit of bad luck with the arm. At least the Shack is looking good.

Hi, been a while but i was amazed how only having the use of 1 arm can hold you back even reading was a challenge, the dog loved it as walking was my only real option or tv yea:disappointed2: but 4 weeks later i still have a splint on my wrist daily but aloud to remove when home and showering elbow has just about full movement and both ache a bit but manageable.

so this week i have managed to rattle can paint the fuselage, tail and wings gloss white and matt white what a combo but they have been sucessful days so can’t complain,
got the bomb bay doors and a few other parts ready see pictures, small bit of titivation on the top gun canopy to do but never used a mask set before and by the size of the masks i dont think its turned out to bad all steps in a forwardly direction
will see what the cockpit & fuselage looks like when we peel them off fingers crossed
will update as I progress
thanks
simon

Hi
well I pressed on over the weekend due to the weather and we can't go anywhere but if it for the greater good!!:rolling::sick:
I did manage to get 3 coats on the mk2 fuselage with gloss white underside, matt white port & starboard sea grey top (is there a technical name for the sides?)
wings and tail both gloss underside and sea grey on top
I struggled to paint the whole aircraft last time so this time thought I would do it in sections,
not sure if that's a great idea but so far due to the colour of the shack I think its working

what do you think? simon

Must have missed this one simon , great job so far the paintwork looks excellent . Fond memories of seeing the old growler at Finningley airshows as a nipper . Cheers tony

Nice to see this one again Simon, very nice work on the painting. Looking very good.

Coming along well! How many coats of white did you need?
Pete

I had a Tamiya grey primer on all parts, then 3 coats of matt & gloss Humberol 34/22 enamel 2 grey 165, going to cut it all back to clean up some lines and blend them in a wee bit then gloss clear.... that's the plan anyway :rolling:

That Frog Shackleton is staring at me from the nearest stash...

Ok slow progress but ... just about completed build not model..
Bomb bay doors and seals are a real pain to fit, then they clash with the ordinance, but once in place looks fine,
fitted the small aerials and top gunner not sure of his position forward or aft facing but he is not fixed front cannons are in place and all masks removed couple of small glitches to resolve but nothing to bad
first time i have used a pre cut mask and looks ok and performed quite well
need to let it all settle for a day or 3 then decal up after clear coating.

new spray booth works great no odours anywhere else in the house so its sucking up well
simon
