I took my old reliant to the garage to address some oil leaks to put a long story short they found out that the engine block was cracked and as I am due some pension money in a couple of months I will be putting a deposit on this. image1.jpeg

Peter

I didn't realise that your could still get Reliants.....used to see them a lot as a kid but can't remember the last time I saw one.

Hope it's a good runner.

ATB.

A proper classic car of it's time which you don't see very often these days.

The garage I am buying it and me go back 30 years so I know the owner or should I say director as his business not only includes reliant but Morgans and steam engines I am buying it from berrybrook motors in Devon
It will have a fresh mot and full service and the registration year is April 1999 so I think there was only less than 500 made before disappearing for good in 01/02

Nice one pete , a classic and very rare from the sound of it , hopefully itll give you years of service and maybe increase in value .

Great fun Peter! I can't remember seeing one as modern as that. Used to pass the old factory in Tamworth quite regularly back in the nineties.

Back in the eighties I lived in a terrace of one bed homes and the guy at the other end was also into his bikes and had a Harley, plus a Reliant. One weekend he came outside with a hammer and a hacksaw and cut it up on his drive. Turned out it had failed the MOT big time and had to go.

Hopefully you'll get years of good service from your new one....

I have been lucky to have a tour of the factory I the last few years of production there.
Mine might be one of the last few made before production ceased and moved elsewhere on the plus side it only has 53 thousand miles on clock where my current one has 95.

I remember a TopGear episode about one of those, better be gentle in the corners :upside::thumb2:

These are very stable cars you have to be a right nutter to turn one over.
The top gear episode to get it to turn over that easily the welded the differ added weight to one side and put three different sized tyres on.

Yes I can imagine they made things a bit more spectacular for the show... :smiling6:have fun, kind regards :thumb2:

Cracked block, any idea how? Not heard of one of those for a while.

No idea how it happened but I was on the point of looking for another one it's just made the decision easier it could be repaired.
Once a block cracked that's it Peter, far too expensive just to replace a block the labour allow is a killer. Only changed a block once, a Volvo F7 truck and then warranty.

Those Reliant engines used to be popular for use in jet boats.

Pete .
Can remember one of my uncles and his 3 wheeler , he had a Bond , think it had a Villers engine . He loved it .
Your Reliant looks brilliant, hope it does you proud .

Peter,
I thought I knew about mist car models but that is one I have never seen before.
Looks like Vauxhall Corsa mk1 headlamp units fitted.
I see you like unusual cars like me, just bought a Kia Stinger (18 plate) of which there are onky 6500 registered in the UK so not as rare as yours.
Enjoy the journeys and memories in the new car.
