Andrew's 1/48 Airfix Spitfire XVIII (A05140)

Looking really nice now andrew , great to see the Indian markings for a change , cheers tony

Looks like the decals went down very nicely indeed Andrew. The black tail band looks okay to me, I would not notice if you hadn't pointed it out.

Looks good Andy 👍

To be honest, if you hadn’t mentioned the black band I wouldn’t have known it was too narrow either.

Looking fantastic Andrew

Thanks chaps, glad you like it and in hindsight the band isn't too far off is it.......I can just blame the ground crew for doing oversized markings!!! 😉😂

Tony - you're right about the Indian Markings. Eduard do a Tempest II that comes with both Indian and Pakistani markings....but it's a hard to find limited edition kit and so not cheap!

Thanks again for the support chaps!

Ok chaps, so very nearly there. Should have this finished tomorrow.

Today was weathering.

For the most part, I simply used Flory washes, Dark Wash. Slap it on and wipe it off. The effect is not as obvious on an all metal finish because the black basing technique inherently leaves darker panel lines to start with, against a the light silver of the fuselage colour. It most obvious on the multitude of discs with rivets inside them (no idea what they are!), mostly on the underside of the wing on the front panels.

I also did a light pin wash in the wheel wells...no point doing anything else as you won't see it.

Since I took these pics I put the final varnish coat on. I've gone for a fairly flat look.....c. 3:1 satin to matt.

All I need to do now is add the exhaust stains and final assembly.

ACW as usual.

Ok chaps....so just a short update....canopy masking off.

It looks like a bit of the wash somehow got under the canopy, via the canopy runner slots maybe but it doesn't look too bad.

Since I took these I have assembled it and it's now finished.

More pics to follow in due course.
