Not done a genuine Matchbox kit (as opposed to a Revell rebox) for a very long time

Got this recently in an auction job lot.... Didn't appeal at first cos it's an odd scale to me

Plan was to do in BRG but I found some pics of red ones and I think it looks rather smart

Apparently they didn't make that many of them.... 30ish.....and now go for silly money as in 7 figures silly

First job will be to strip the chrome off

Should be a trip down memory lane, loved matchbox kits as a kid..... They seemed so fresh and clever after airfix was pretty much the only game in town

Definitely striking in red. Amazing how expensive some of these vintage cars are. I have never built a Matchbox kit. Look forward to this.

After Matchbox went bust Revell acquired a lot of the tooling so you might have without realising

I love an old Matchbox kit. Some time ago I built a Matchbox Mercedes Benz SSKL, it was a great little kit, as I'm sure this one will be.

Been doing a bit of digging on scalemates

Was new tool in 1975 and by the boxart mine was made 1975 to 1986....price tag on the box is 85p!!

Interestingly when Revell repopped it they did it in red (scheme is a car that came third in 1935 Le Man's)

Pyro did an Aston Martin International in rather eye-watering bright yellow. A kit I would very much like to get, without having to sell my kidneys for.

BTW so called 'British Racing Green' isn't the single colour everyone thinks it is, probably at least not before the 'seventies. Though green was the colour, every car manufacturer used a different shade of green paint on their cars. Astons were distinctly paler than Bentleys, or 'sixties BRMs and Vanwalls, and probably not far off the current shade on F1 Astons'.
Red is fine!
