I have finally finished this one. It was inspired by this photo:

I used the HK Models Lancaster cockpit model and the ICM British pilots set to build this version:

It was a fun project - aircraft are not really 'my thing' so was a challenge. I was disappointed with the HK kit - it has decals for the outside but none for inside the cockpit, it would have been nice to have a set for all of the cockpit dials which are quite visible.

Beautifully done, I like that a lot!

Did you scratch the mattresses? They are brilliant.

Hi Andy - yes they are scratch built. I used oven baked clay, which gave me loads of time to work on them before baking. for most things\ i use two part putty (magicSculpt) but sometimes oven baked clay is just what is needed.

thanks guys.

for anybody interested in WW2, the wartime newspaper 'The War Illustrated" is a fantastic source of ideas. It was printed as a weekly newspaper between 1939 and 1946, usually only a couple of weeks after the events it reported. the vast majority of the photos I have never seen published elsewhere

Brilliant Peter. When I left the RN a few, (cough), years ago. We used to practice emergency escape drills every six months. Luckily we were closer to Mother Earth but we still had to spill out. Only we had maintainers hanging onto the jettisonable windows in case we damaged one!!!!
Then every two years this!!!! The dreaded 'dunker'.

Hi Peter, nice to see something different than the usual vehicle and figure dio. Love it.

Cheers,

A truly excellent piece of work, Peter. From conception to finished piece. Brilliant. :thumb2::smiling3:.

Very, very nice indeed!

I've a picture somewhere of some poor lad doing something similar from Mosquito if you're stuck for a follow up :)

Interesting vignet, and a great take on a subject not really talked about, like it is hard enough to get in, but how do you get out???
