Bf 109 G-2 (Trumpeter 1/24)

This is looking fantastic steven , the paintwork is sublime , the masked markings look amazing and the squiggles are superb , not an easy thing to do even in this scale . The masking for the spinner spiral is one of those impossible tasks but youve nailed it . Loving this , cheers tony

Just had a good old catch up with this one Steven, must say that it's looking SUPERB 😎
Lots of things stand out to me.... The Pilot is really nicely painted, your home made masks
fit very neatly and the camo looks spot on👍,
All in all a cracking build mate, love it 🤗.

Most certainly a shelf queen worth completing. Very impressive all round. The pilot is really well done. Excellent paint job and making all the masks has worked very well so definitely worth the effort.

Thanks for the comments guys 🙏

It took a while but today I've cut the markings (sheet of AK adhesive), based on the black&white image.
This was then sprayed in black (vallejo),

Next the 'inner' mask that was left was cut further (outline removed),

And I placed the inner mask into the center (nightmare) of the black paint, only the outline is now not covered with tape,

The outline was then sprayed with white (vallejo),

I've put hours into the masking, sprayed 30 seconds and the all the masking can be removed...

The result so far, at the moment no decals are used,

That's all, still have to mask the underside crosses for the wing but getting there...
Thanks for reading & cheers 🖐️

That looks unbelievably good ! You must have the steady hand of a surgeon to cut those numbers out so precisely. This is going to look stunning , cheers tony

Thanks Tony 🙏

Today sprayed the crosses for the under-wing, I think this will be the last bit of masking for this model.
Same as the fuselage I sprayed the inside black (vallejo),

Then added more masking to cover the black and sprayed white for the corners (vallejo),

All the masking is done now, I will use the kit decals for the smaller details...

Next time I'll add a gloss varnish for the decals and pin wash.

Thanks Paul,

Just a quick update, last week I added a gloss varnish (vallejo) and tried to add the remaining decals.

This is the decal sheet from the kit - AeroMaster.

I don't think I ever used AeroMaster decals before, but it was quite a pain to work with...
They were extremely brittle and quite thick - perhaps due to age?

The swastika is a kit on it's own... 4 pieces that you need to line up 45°, the transparent film then overlaps 4 times in the center...
Most pieces also shattered into fragments - a real joy!

I used Micro Set and Sol - Sol wasn't strong enough, so I brushed on Mr Mark Softer which to be honest didn't do much either...

The result is some silvering in various places :/
Perhaps my gloss coat was more of a satin, but the main issue was the decals didn't react as I expected to the setting solution.
I reapplied Mr Mark Softer a few times, also overnight without any difference.

Luckily I masked/sprayed all the larger markings!

After another gloss coat I added a panel wash (Tamiya black) which I wiped off with spirit. the panel lines on the model are very small so the effect is very subtle.

A shame about the decals Steve, Have you ever used liquid decal film?
