Thinking about weathering the deck and I found out the Japanese didn't use teak they used Japanese cypress which when weathered turns a pale grey you think I could make my own wash ?

Excellent work, Brian.
Weathered and scrubbed teak also turned a pale grey in time (perhaps with a hint of yellow), so you are on a 'Win, win'.

Away to go with your own wash. Just keep it pale to start with. If you go too dark first off, that's it. Game over!

Keep in mind, a second coat of the first shade will be naturally a bit darker once applied to the first. I hope that makes sense! :upside:

Try on a bit of scrap deck....

HI Bri them hose reels look very fiddley to build but you have done it good man an the hull looks fab just dont overdo it as 570 says

Ron's right. You can always darken the deck with more of the same but go too dark initially and it's difficult to correct.

The decks were painted black in 1945 so if you go to dark theres always another option .

How do the original rudders compare to those lovely new ones?
The original rudder are the wrong shape and way to thick that's why I ordered these from model monkey in the states ....not cheap though $19 and the same postage, as for the hanger doors as I said I feel with them opening outwards there will not be enough clearance for the plane to fit in the well.
Just my take on it :smiling3:

The crew used soot from the upstairs to stain the deck, nice job lol

I think pontos do a stained wooden deck
