Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

This is coming on really well. You're certainly going the extra mile and it shows.

Cheers Jim, enjoying the build atm but I think I got the hardest bit to come, I'm dreading and looking forward to the rigging at the same time :)

First question John this won't make ropes it just a serving (wrapping) machine? I would need a rope walk to make ropes?
Brian

If you want to lay your own hawsers and cables then you would need a ropewalk. I have always found that ship modelling stores can supply ready made cable in most sizes. this is a short definition of cable making ( leaving aside the details of cable laid and rope laid) I hope this helps to illustrate the complications:

First, some definitions ... threads or Fibers are twisted to the right to form Yarn; three yarns are twisted to the left to make a Strand; three Strands twisted to the right make a Hawser (or rope); three Hawsers twisted to the left form a Cable ... and four strands twisted around a single central strand of yarn is a Shroud-laid Rope.

Good luck

Billings boats in Denmark has a wide range of bits and pieces for ship building and has a mail order service.

this is a supplier I found on E-Bay. Looks to have everything covered.

Thank you John buying ready made ropes seems the way to go :) the shrouds supplied with the kit are pretty poor and very fuzzy/fluffy
