Although I thought a white hull would be incongruous I have to say it looks absolutely brilliant.

I was fearing that you would lose all that lovely pear wood effect Brian, but the white on the hull enhances the rest of it. And it's historically accurate too.

I know you had some fit problems earlier in the build but looking at where the chains and the deadeyes will be fitted I wonder if some of the guns are going to interfere with where the channels are fitted.

John, It wouldn't surprise me at all but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, looking at it even if I move them either way I'll still have the same problem ! I'll run the chains either side of the ports.
The deadeys are more of a problem
she does look good in white.
Why am I not surprised at the gold hinges! I'd leave the bling Brian, in keeping with the rest of the vessel.

What were they made of Brian? If iron I would expect them to be blacked for protection from the sea. Can’t see them being polished brass if I’m honest. Apart from anything else, they would be really hard to access for polishing.

Historically, the gun port hinges on the Sovereign of the Seas (1637) were made of iron and blackened with tar (or painted a dark charcoal/black) to protect them from the corrosive salt sea air. [1, 2]
However, because it was the most ostentatiously decorated royal prestige warship of its time, you have two distinct options depending on whether you are aiming for true historical accuracy or standard model kit aesthetics
1. Historical Accuracy (Blackened / Dark)
2. Commercial Model Kit Standard (Brass / Gold / Bronze)

Done some research and all manuta kits will have the same problem with channel alignment.
