Brushes.

Hi and welcome mate....
SMS Paint brush section...
It really depends what sort of use they will be put too, eg: acrylics, oil paint, large for coverage, small for detail, etc.
Most model shops have a large selection. (See link above to our very own Scale Model Shop).
But also don't forget art shops, craft centres, hobbycraft, etc who will all sell decent brushes at reasonable prices.
Like I assume most people I started with just a few (maybe half a dozen) but now have about 50, Lol!
I basically have mine in four sections:
Very small brushes for fine detail, eg: 1/72 figures, etc.
Larger brushes mostly flat for covering large areas, plane wings, fuselage, tank bodies, etc.
Oil brushes, I keep these separate and only use them for oils.
Old, rough brushes, some with bristles cut down, which I use for stippling, etc.
As for quality of brushes, I have all sorts, I have found that for fine stuff the better more expensive brushes are really good. But I tend to just use cheap brushes for non fine work.
Prices for mine have been from £1 each up to a couple where I paid about £15 each and everything in between.
If you look at some of the paint brush sets, you can often get good quality and a good selection for not too much money. EG: The Army Painter do some good sets. But also look at Marta Kolinsky, Ammo/Mig, Vallejo, Tamiya, Daler-Rowney, Windsor and Newton, Modelcraft, etc.
Don't forget that some non model making brushes can also be used, eg: makup brushes, etc. And also don't forget that other non brush things can be used for painting, eg: bit of sponge, bits of foam, etc for stippling, chipping, etc.

I tend to buy cheap multi packs from The Works or similar for dirty jobs.
The vast majority of my brush work is done with Pro Arte Acrylix 202 series as they are durable, reasonably priced and keep a decent point for a synthetic brush.
For really detailed stuff I have a few Rosemary & Co 93 series sable brushes, and two Raphael 8404 (#2/0 & #1) that only come out on very special occasions
