So I’m trying to put carpet in my model cars and I seem to be having a problem. I’ve tried several different types of glues. I’ve used flocking powder and embossing powder both, but I still cannot get the carpet to not look patchy. Help!

Is it the texture or the colour that's patchy?

I've never done a model but for flocking full sized items painting it the same colour as the flock (or using coloured glue) is pretty essential to stop the base colour grinning through the flock.

Applying the flock with a small sieve or tea strainer helps to get an even coverage.

That's about the only help I can offer as it's not something I've done at scale.

For the smaller scales I have used Mr Surfacer 500 dabbed on to the area with a stiffish brush to create texture and then painted it.

I gave up on trying to flock

Hobby craft do very thin felt in a variety of colours... A4 size about 60p asheet... Cut the right shape and either glue in or use double sided tape..... Works for me

I've done OK with flocking powder using Mod Podge. I've also seen videos of a guy using enamel paint of the same colour as a base.

Try rolling a cotton bud over the paint while tacky.

I usually always use the same color paint that I’m gonna use for the carpet but the carpet is what turns out patchy not the color. It’s like I can’t get enough flocking material to stick. I’ve watched several videos and tried several methods so I guess I’m just gonna need more practice.

I saw a video online where a guy used that fabric elastoplast cut to size and painted. It looked really effective.
