These what ever they are have had a little detail added to them. What ever they are can be positioned open or closed I have them closed.

They're exhausts for the pneumatic jet propulsion plants that propel these slow buggers when the need arises Paul :tears-of-joy::smiling6: Okay...kidding, I don't know what it is either but it sure looks good with the added spring.

Cheers,
Richard

That would be something to see a jet propelled tank.

They’re holders for two smoke generators (each, so four in all).
Cheers Jakko that would have been my first guess as couldn't think of anything else they could be bat thanks for confirming it.

Well what ever they are, must say Richards sound more appealing while Jakko is no doubt correct they look the part Paul. :thumb2:

John, I know mate the truth is often more boring lol.
Not so boring Scottie, funny how the English still regarded the tank as a ship. "Captain gives the order '...make smoke!' " as they make a slow get-a-way :smiling6:

Cheers,
Richard

Coming On very nicely indeed Paul.

Well done so far. Your attention to detail is impressive.

well it didn't get much slower than this with a 15mph top speed.
Well they were originally known as Landships...
Very true mate in fact they were crewed by the Navy if I remember correctly in the first war.
Hi Scottie
Great additions. All looks neat and tidy.

Ah the truth is often boring :rolling:
Jim

Initial tank development fell under the Navy, but actual use at first was as part of the Heavy Branch of the Machine Gun Corps, as I recall.

Also they were initially classed and paid as artillerymen….

They hold two smoke pots in each box, today the smoke would be generated through the engine, back then they used smoke pots.

(For discussion only.)
As you can see above with the electrical wire coming down from the engine compartment on this Sherman, with the circuit box just in view above the boxes.

I made a lot of work for my self. I removed the moulded hinge detail ready for the etch replacements then when I looked closer I didn't like the etch option at all. So the hinges were made from strips of evergreen, copper wire and punched detail. the screw heads are 0.6mm punched discs cut with a scalpel blade.
