Churchill AVRE Mk. lll

not sure which bit you mean but I think it's just the result of cutting the strip off of the sheet of aly.
If you look at the strip that’s over the hammer, but below the shovel, it looks just like very shallow U-profile. I thought that was intentional, so I wondered how you have managed to bend that so neatly into having two upturned edges :)

Its those hinges showing the knuckle like that, extreme scratchery Paul .

Where'd you hide the "Shrinking Ray Gun" Mr. Scottie.....the committee is bound to find you out sooner or later :tongue-out3: :tongue-out2::thinking: Rick H.

ps. superb attention to detail Sir.

Jakko, looks like a happy accident. It is just the burr from cutting the strip so will be worth remembering if this look is required.

Thank you John, I always use 0.3 wire and not the 0.5 the instructions call for I find it makes a stronger joint.
Many thanks Paul.

Cheers Rick a shrink ray, that would certainly make things easier.

The can holders the other side have been done, one has been left empty just to be different,

Earlier in the instructions it advised to drill a hole either side in the track guards at the rear. These are to mount what I presume are spare suspension units. I have since decided after trying them in place that I will leave them off as most reference pics don't show them fitted. So I have cut and glued two plugs will will be dressed when the glue has dried.

They’re not spare but were used on some AVREs for engineering-related work, essentially as rollers, off the top of my head. I think they appear on models more than on the real thing, though I don’t recall the exact function off the top of my head.

The huIl builds is pretty much done now. The next stage of the build is the mortar. This is a nicely detailed part of the kit and went together well.

Next the turret was assembled and the surface prepped for the addition of the details.

The turret bin is done there was an etch option but cant see the point so used the kit part with etch fittings also added some 0.5 rivets to the lid. I will add it to the turret later.

The loaders hatch has also been added along with the catches.

Very nice Paul…those hinges on the loaders hatch look like they might work? :flushed:

Paul

That is coming on very nicely indeed. As Jack said, the hinges on the loafers hatch look workable. Very impressive

Hi Scottie
The first thing I notice is just how neat the pe details are. Great skill and attention to the little things which lift a model to the next level.
Carry on Sir - excellent stuff.

Jack thanks mate they do work but I put a small amount of CA on them to keep them from moving and extra strength.

Cheers Andrew, as I said to Jack they do work when assembled but are glued for strength.

Cheers Jim, very kind of you. I do like PE but only where it can actually improve the look not just for the sake of using it.
You never fail to amaze Paul. The epitome of modelling skill.
Ver nice Scottie :thumb2:
