Ron was an inspiring modeller. His ideas, his building, his photography and his sense of humour were second to none. He built whatever took his fancy from Zulus and rusty railway engines to aeroplanes flying under bridges! He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

In the film "The Hunt for Red October" there is a memorable scene where the USS Dallas, an American nuclear submarine, makes an 'emergency blow, a full rise'.

This still is from THIS YouTube video

I reckon a model of that would have been right up Ron's street.

I am using this Revell kit. It only cost me less than a tenner delivered so again very Ron appropriate.

Only 21 parts and quite a few of them won't be used.

God alone knows how I'm going to tackle the water but we'll give it a go. Ron can look down and smile.

Cleaned up the body join, only a tiny bit of re-scribing needed. Glued the main conning tower parts in place. Mind you the kit only has 21 parts and I'm only going to use 11 of them so not a lot of construction :D
Marked to cut position and set to with the razor saw.

What a great idea for a tribute. Ron did like a drop of the wet stuff. He was the master of water dio's as well.

Better weather = orders from SWMBO = gardening. Don't really mind but harder to find bench time.

I reduced the height of the base slightly and edged it with 1.5mm balsa. Sealed, stained and varnished.

Dallas is painted and lightly weathered with oils. In the film Dallas appears to be all one colour grey but all references shows it like this.

Thanks for looking in - appreciated.
