Well this was nice little painting project to get me back in the swing after a break of a month or so. Maybe it's my age but I get out of the painting groove very quickly these days.
The goggles thing is a nice trick which I shall refine in the future. It's always bugged me.
Painting faces is still totally hit or miss for me, but the rest of it is not so scary now.

I had another bash at a close up

and, inspired by Steve's(Stona) Dogfight Double pics, a quick fumble with a background...

Bader & Hurricane.jpg

I put him on a grass 'airfield' base, but I really don't like the flock that has red and blue strands in it. I kind of understand that it's the way to mix colours, but is this as good as it gets ,or is there any out there that is just a colour?

I'm glad to have Douglas in my collection-he was a boyhood hero of mine, even if my opinion of him has tempered with maturity. He will be joined on the shelf eventually by these guys

Very good indeed. I am no good with figures personally, unlike you.

I think that looks great and very much like Bader. It shows what can be done at this scale. Mercifully, my efforts are usually mostly hidden in a cockpit :)

Love the background on the last picture, very appropriate for a man who made his considerable reputation flying Hurricanes.

Love it!
Neil, that's come out rather nicely. Very well presented too. Well done.
A great compliment, coming from you, Ron, thanks.
Superb job neil , he looks fantastic in front of the hurricane. Cheers tony
Thanks Tony, really glad you like the Hurricane- I didn't try very hard, just put it up on the screen and held the figure there and snapped. There were a lot of failures on the way though

Ooh ,sorry I missed you Steve.
Thanks very much-yes it had to be a Hurricane- I can't believe there isn't one readily available in 1-32 scale from a major manufacturer

It's a travesty. I think the various Fly kits are the only ones readily available, which is why they now charge about £50 for kits not really worth that kind of money (I've built a couple). PCM used to do one, but I think they are long defunct now.

So sorry I missed this one Neil. For a 1/32 scale figure, you have done wonders to bring it life. How on earth did you manage to paint the eyes so well??? The last pic definitely tells a good story and highlights your great figure painting skills Sir!!!

wow ,thanks Allen.
I have so many 1/32 figures in my stash that I daren't get used to larger scales in case I can't go back!
As for the eyes, I don't try too hard... the main thing is that the pupils are not too small, and they are both pointing the same way! I don't bother with a lower eyelash, just a thin line of dark flesh shading .
I feel unworthy even writing this- there are other more expert people to ask about painting, I just wing it and hope for the best!

I know what you mean about the scale you are painting in......every thing else looks gigantic to me as well. A beautiful result on this one Neil. Thanks for sharing it. Rick H.
