After a careful sanding down of the filler it looked much better . The rear metal cowling band ( the prominent silver stripes on these and LA5s ) needed building up a little so some thin plastic card was used . Once this was blended in it was remasked and primed . It will probably need a little fine tuning before the top colour goes on and I will need to re do the red nose but I’m happy with how the repair is going so far . Repair has had its first coat of colour , theres a small light grey area to be added once the dark grey has cured . The red nose is going to get another coat too . I’m happy with how its turned out , once the silver bands have been applied and the natural steel panels round the exhaust area , you hopefully wont be able to tell it was nearly ruined ! Very good, I know you know the blemish is there, but I’m not seeing it now you have the paint on, top notch job on cleaning that up.

Have you cut a piece of foam to cover the cockpit? That looks a neat way of just covering over with masking tape and I think I’ll try that.

Thanks neil , yes its a piece of foam , cut ever so slightly larger than the opening so it holds in and hopefully seals the opening . I use the high density type of make up remover sponges , theyre dirt cheap and easy to cut into shapes for masking .Theres some masking the undercarriage bays too.
