Just got this one finished to my satisfaction, the Tamiya 1/72 scale kit (build thread here) finished as aircraft No. 29 of VF-17 “Jolly Rogers”.

Though I’m generally pleased with how it’s come out, some minor points could have been done better, I think. Mostly the silvering on the fuselage in front of the canopy, but also the paint fading on the wings isn’t strong enough, but I don’t feel like trying to enhance the effect :)

Oh now I'm depressed.
Much better paint job that mine!

Thanks, guys :)

The paint job wasn’t very difficult, really. It’s just base colours sprayed, then the panel lines painted in with a darker colour suitably thinned down. I generally wiped over this with my finger, towards the rear of the plane so it might streak a little. The chipping is just one shade of silver applied with a fine brush in random patterns on the front edge, trying to match photos of the real plane, especially in the areas on the tops of the wings. The last part was the not-faded-enough effect on the dark blue, as heavy drybrushing/semi-wet-brushing with a mixture of the dark and light blue in a couple of shades, and rubbing the paint out with my finger while it was still wet. That’s really all the painting I did on this model.

Hi Jakko
Very nice finish you have there :thumb2:

Hi Jakko, nicely done Corsair. I'll be doing the same plane soon...you'll see the funny side of it. :tears-of-joy:

Cheers,

Cheers :)

It’ll be interesting to see what you make of it — better than this one, I’m fairly certain.

This nearly slipped me by. Great job Jakko. A nice suitably 'used' finish.

That’s why I like these US Navy/USMC aircraft: they don’t look as pristine as many others :)

This one passed me by too , fantastic job ! Personally i think the fading is spot on , cheers tony

Thanks, but even though I like the model as it came out, I wouldn’t call it a fantastic job :) Reasonable, but not quite what I had in mind due to some unforeseen problems (like that big decal on the cowling ending up skewed and silvered). The finish could have been a bit more obvious too — compared to photos of the real plane this is a model of, my weathering is actually fairly understated.
