Just struck me to day as I checked on the cricket & it mentioned the England Women's cricket team.

A women's cricket team.

England's women rugby team, a football team, a hockey team etc.

Do we have any of the fair sex as members here ? Not seen any on other forums before I came here. Do they model that is in the glue & plastic mode ?

My wife is in to gardening, big huge time all the time. After I have cut down, mostly with big thorns, carted away this & mended the fence she is more than happy, actually over the moon, to see me well out of the garden, & her way, while I make models. Think she thinks I am mad, but so what, what is new & what is more she is probably right.

Is this all typical ? Or am I just weird ? Or is it just my wife who considers me weird ?

Laurie

My wife thinks im weird as well.Calls me a nerd because i make models. That said she bought me a kit last xmas, an airbrush for my birthday and i know she's got me another kit for this xmas.So she doesnt mind really.

Hi Laurie!

I'm single at moment... But I will say you, you are not strange... Providing that a girl comes to my house it has the same sensation, and it's possible to see in his eyes. My house is a "loft", like that so not my kits (I have begun now), but if my Land Rover's collection floods most of the house. They look at you as if you were a creature still for maturing... And some models have a great value and are extremely ancient, and I have to travel for found they!!! Teach the diorama that I make (winter patrol) to my last friend and smiling she said to me that they were looking like little houses of chocolate, was very discouraging... And I don't understand the motive, to my look like, the model-maker, probably the word is not the correct one, but it seems to me to be very "romantic".

And they do not see it this way...

My GF seems to actively encourage me in my modelling, buying me models and asking if I need anything.

She even asks if something is wrong if I take a couple of days off ?

I'm sure she has an ulterior motive, but I'm buggered if I know what it is.

Probably keeps me quiet and out of her way - lol

Tony.

My good lady has known for some time that I'm a geek

(films, music, comics) so my hitting the plastic came as

No surprise & bless her cotton socks she even tries to take

An interest. (even bought me a ticket to this years Flying Legends, despite the good view from the garden)

Regards

Chris

There are a couple that have said hi on here but i've not seen any work by them

My wife tolerates my hobby/obsession. I do sea fishing and up to and until my son was born i was away every other weekend fishing for at least 14 hours a day and sometimes a whole weekend. Since i came back to my hobby roots i don't go fishing hardly ever now. Still do occasionally but not for long periods. so she doesn't mind a hobby that keeps me at home where i can help out with my son (and hopefully him join in one day). She does get a bit annoyed when another kit comes through the post as my stash is well big enough already.... but i love getting kits lol

Hi Ian. Yes I am one of those researched as not having shown my work. At a loss as to how to answer this one as a kick in the bottom or a criticism.

Certainly not my wife preventing me quite the opposite she supports me in all that I do.

I have always been shy of showing anything that I have produced especially if I do not think it is up to the standard I set myself. Some times this is quite a hindrance as you tend to underestimate your achievements. Think this probably comes from up bringing where in the 40's & early 50's it was instilled into most children not to show off. Be seen but not heard a favourite.

So of the six models I have achieved so far in my first year I did not think the first five were worthy. The sixth just needs a few tweaks & then I will test the waters.

Laurie

I understand what you are saying Laurie.

Seeing the standard of work on kits displayed on here I was really quite nervous about showing mine, specially my first build a few months ago, but I found that everyone was encouraging and tried to identify positive points and were much more complimentary than my own self-criticism.

We will see if that is still the case in a week of so when I have finished my Seafire!!! (To be fair, I am pleased with how its going so far and think its my best build yet, but we shall see....)

As for the female question....

I do wonder why hobbies such as this are so male dominated. OK the warlike subject matter of so much of what we do is male orientated I suppose and men are more interested in mechanical things but if there were to be more female interest in kits then perhaps a market for more female orientated subjects might arise. Chicken and egg perhaps.

SWMBO tolerates my model bashing. She knows where I am and what I'm up to! Also it is a relatively inexpensive pastime, though it doesn't always feel like it. I spend more on books than models.

Cheers

Steve

The only thing my better half worries about some times is where the hell I am going to put them...

Kits are not the problem, its the display cases that cost. Having a first floor with sloping wall dont help!!

It'll be shoes or bags, both of which can cost a fortune....

My wife exhibits typical Female behaviour.Calls me a nerd and refers to my hobby as 'wasting time on those stupid models!'.Them she asks for a list of kits i want for christmas!.

I'm a girl... :) I haven't posted any pics yet as I've not been a member very long and not finished a model yet, but I have spent the morning spraying a Tigercat... It's nearly there, am hoping it will be finished next week

I know what you mean about it being a male dominated hobby though. If I mention to a female at work that I like planes/ships/models etc, I get a generic response and their eyes glaze over... HOWEVER..... say something to a chap, I get a proper response (and usually questions I can't answer...!)

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

Glad to see a woman finally putting something on the forum. Looking forward to seeing your finished Tigercat.
