Scale Model Shop

Fill in's 2 the sequel

That looks very nice indeed, Mick.

There comes a point where the skill set runs out and you have to move on. For me with this figure it was getting a decent pic and painting liquids.

Painting liquids? I dont see any liquid on that last model.

No pictures visible with this post, Mick. Looks like you've had the same picture problems others (me included) have had. You can see the pictures at your end, but they don't appear for the rest of us.

HI Mick WHILE i dont hardly comment on these figures i feel as though ive got to this time very nice work with your figure paintin work

Richard, Paul and Chris many thanks for your kind words, comments like these always spur me on to try harder

Some nice work going on here. Nice to see other small figures on the go 👍

By liquids I assume you mean the ones in the vials on his back and the weapon in his hand? If so, try painting them like jewels. Glass, liquid and jewels are hard, until you get the knack and it suddenly becomes easier. There are several good tutorials out there, but the basic trick is to get the highlights in proportion and situated at the bottom of the vessel where the light is refracted through the liquid, and then put a bright spot highlight at the top where the light impacts. Took me years to get it right, and even now I find some colours (red) easier than others. Giving them a gloss varnish afterwards helps as well……
This is the one that cracked it for me…I think it helps because the technique is shown on paper rather than on a mini.

Thanks for that Tim, a useful article. As with all things small we paint, practice makes perfect

I'm sure people will agree that one thing we strive for in our hobby is to progress our skill sets and learn from the vast wealth of knowledge on here and in the wider community to improve what we do. As one of the figure painters on here I do like to try and push myself, sometimes deliberately avoiding easier models to try and do better. I'm always watching stuff on social media and following some of the best painters out there. It was while watching one of these one of my next projects appeared. I seldom by box sets as I don't game anymore and look for single figures to have a go at. My latest purchase however is a real leap of faith and is certainly going to test my eyesight more than anything. These are a group of resin figures from a game called Moonstone. I just love how different they are but they are very small compared to my usual choices. Hopefully I'll get them cleaned up shortly and give them a go. For some reason 2 of my pics are missing and as I'm posting this at work will have to be added later.

For those console gamers who remember Halo, there are now miniatures available for a game called Flashpoint so I couldn’t resist painting one up. It is slightly taller than the normal Warhammer figures I paint but you can hardly tell. So here’s master chief

As sorting through the house continues, visits to my desk have been quite infrequent, can't let the boss catch me slacking :p I have managed to finish another Warhammer 40K Space Marine again from the Rapters chapter.

Hi Richard, they are Games Workshop figures. If you Google Warhammer AOS Stromcast Eternals there are loads of images showing how to paint these up. The guy with the spear looks like a Vindictor and the guy with the hammer is a Sequitor. I do like painting these and have quite a few in my collection. Some are designed as push fit but I like to glue as it seals up the joins and makes for a better looking figure. Hope that helps?

Many thanks Mick.I will have to have a bash at painting them mate,Thanks for the heads up.They have push fit but i will glue as you recommend.
Cheers pal.

Looking really good Mick. I'm currently in a similar situation where my bench is not available for periods of time. In my case, it's because of constant visits from my wife's Australian relatives and she insists on my clearing out my modelling stuff from the spare bedroom.
