Here at last is the completed MiG 15 UTI in 1/32 scale . The model is a combination of 2 trumpeter kits , (MiG 15 and Chengdu JJ5) the build thread can be found here http://www.scale-models.co.uk/community/threads/yaks-cross-kitted-mig-15-uti-midget-in-1-32-scale.26809/ . I wanted the model to represent the aircraft in which the great Yuri Gagarin and his co pilot Vladimir Seryogin lost their lives in a tragic accident on 27th march 1968. The MiG 15 UTI ,used for cosmonaut training ,had the Bort number red 18 and the callsign '625' .It crashed into the ground at high speed under mysterious circumstances still not fully known today ,although very recent testimony from an ex soviet pilot points to a possible unauthorised aircraft passing too close to the mig at very high speed and causing Gagarin to lose control in the other aircrafts jet wash , but we'll probably never know for sure.One things certain the world lost a very courageous , charismatic man that day. Beautiful job Tony and very appropriate as I've just watched a programme about the Soviet/Russian cosmonauts!

Soviet aircraft have a bit of an industrial look to them, but it doesn't stop them working as well as or better than anyone else's.

Very nice tony , this was an ugly bird I think the wingspan was longer than the fuselage, really good attention to detail and those seatbelts make all the the difference

Absolutely beautiful job. Fantastic detail and spot on textures and finishes on the surface plating.

It also just goes to show how a simple base can take a model to a whole new level.
