I've built a thing. I started this a while ago, then, breaking all my rules of modelling, the 'One thing at a time on the bench ' rule, I got distracted by two group builds and a new tool Airfix Bulldog. But anyway, here I am, finished.
The Airfix 1:48 Gloster Javelin. A very nice kit. There's a small, but well publicised problem getting the cockpit onto the fuselage, just a slight alignment thing to deal with, but certainly no deal breaker.
The nice thing about building something so modern is there are quite a few photo's on the web, some show these aircraft becoming quite faded and worn out in the heat of the sun in the far east, however, I kept this one clean.
It turns out this was Gloster's last production aircraft, whilst being the RAF's first missile armed jet interceptor.
If you fancy a nice big 1:48 Javelin, go for it, it's a good kit.

Always liked the Javelin since I had the Dinky as a kid, and that's a good one!

Beautiful.

PS How many of those 47 zillion teeny tiny decals did you have left over?😀

Superb build colin - the finish is beautiful . Love the Javelin , a fascinating if not very successful aircraft ( as its nickname ‘ harmonious dragmaster ‘ implies!) . The Airfix kit is very well regarded and it certainly looks impressive when built . The chunky boarding ladder perfectly complements the javelins big boned appearance too ! Cheers tony

Thank you everyone for stopping by and commenting.

a nice finish and great pictures
A satin varnish seemed right for this aircraft. It's a big beast,so photographing was a touch awkward.

I think, the only ones I missed off are on the inside of the pylons. It seems this aircraft was made up of access panels, with nearly every panel having some notice applied to it. Look carefully at the underside picture, and you will see many, many 1:48 scale notices.

That ladder comes in the kit, as do the FOD things. That, I thought was a nice touch by Airfix. Although the real thing, how did they move it off the aircraft ? It's not exactly QRA friendly.

Silly me - I thought they were specks of dust on my 'puter screen!

That is a real beauty of a build. I have one in the stash and have looked at the box a few times...
A very nice finish you have there. As for all the decals you made it look easy! Nice work.

Cheers Ian,

As for all the decals you made it look easy!
When dealing with 1.2 million decals, I recommend, a good podcast, and wine - other drinks are available.
