Hello all,

Here's my entry into this group build, and I think it's the first aircraft I've built for about ten years.

Quite a simple build hopefully! I've made a start, putting together the cockpit first, and building the fuselage around it.

The cockpit looks quite nice with the decals. Not hugely detailed, but I think it serves well enough considering it'll be obscured by the pilot and canopy.

And here we are so far:

Thanks,

Another Zero, looks like Andy's Japanese GB is going to get done variety.

A bit more work done on this one. I want the Zero to be on a carrier deck, with the canopy open, so a few deviations will be needed from the base kit. Firstly, the pilot:

Left is the Airfix one, right is a replacement one from Redbox. Much better! Secondly, I need the canopy to be open.

Snip snip, 20 minutes of meticulous scraping with a craft knife later:

There we are!

Great work greg , the AM pilot is a big improvement on the Airfix boggo standard ‘ twiddling his thumbs ‘ one . Nice job separating the canopy too , a steady hand and sharp saw always needed .

Splendid stuff Greg :thumb2:

Well done separating the canopy parts, that could have ended badly :confounded:

Geoff.

These Airfix 1/72 kits are generally pretty good. You're off to a great start. Well done cutting the canopy.

Thank you for the comments, all. A bit more done on this one over the last few days:

Firstly, the landing gear is added, and a coat of primer:

Then the first bit of painting, as well as adding the canopy, the propeller and the cowling. The canopy was a bit of a nightmare :smiling5: lots of careful painting, drying and toothpick-scraping, and then starting over again because I messed it up. I think it's as good as I'm going to get it!

And lastly, the base has been started; basicly 26 coffee stirrers, cut down to fit a photoframe. Once stained and glued down, and with a bit of additional detail added, I'm hoping this will pass for a section of IJN carrier deck:
