Hi guys

i am researching Academy Sergeant-Major Raymond Huggins and have managed to identify all but one of his medals. The medal I cannot identify is the one on the right, the white cross with the yellow and red ribbon With what looks like green edging.

does anybody know what the award is?

HI PETER i think it was a medal give by france but dont know the name of it

It reminds me of the Knights Cross with Swords of the Order of Civil Merit but the ribbon is different and the blue border in the center is not the same color. I saw a pic of the award I'm referring to in one of my Military collectible Refs. It might cross reference if the award was given out in different grades........just spit balling here.

Well the last one according to the medal mounting guide is of the least importance. The one before appears to be a long service award . So agree with Steve and Rick it's probably not of British origin. Of course we could all be wrong :tongue-out:

Sorry can't help Peter.... And I had a really good try. The closest I could find was a Luxembourg medal of some sort but it was still off.

Will be interested to know what it is.

ATB.

It's the shape of the Croix de Guerre, which he received and I don't see else where.
I've seen it with white on red ribbons but not this.
Also found a picture of him at Sandhurst without that medal, so maybe the ribbon denotes a late award......just speculating on that.

Hi all. Took a bit of digging but it's the Croix de Reconnaissance des Sous-Officiers UNSOR. It's awarded in recognition of valuable service by the French National Union of Retired Non-Commissioned Officers (Union National des Sous-Officiers en Retraite).

Well done that man - closest I got was the China War(s) in 18... something...

Thanks all. Reckoned it had to be foreign as it's mounted after his LS&GC, then I found a mention of a CdeR in one of his obituaries. Still took a wee while to work out what it stood for!

The bio I read has incorrectly called it the CdeG......I know that comes with a different ribbon for overseas conflicts so assumed this was a variant. The enameling threw me too.
