That mottling is just insane , incredible airbrush control andy . I imagine its very difficult to keep things random , the natural tendency would be to keep repeating the same shape , plus not joining them all up - its a massively tricky job but youve absolutely nailed it , cheers tony

Thanks for the great comments guys, much appreciated!

You're right Tony, I'm finding randomness the hardest. I've been starting out with light, random squiggles over an area. This starts to form a few shapes that I then build upon.

I might be back and forth with that a couple of times before I'm happy:
Crikey Andy. This is moving so fast I am finding it hard to keep up. You are a perfectionist Andy, from my seat pearing out over my mug of T that already looks stunning, you have a real talant mate.

Superb airbrush work Andy. The mottle is just spot on. But then, I expect nothing less from you because you always deliver exceptional finishing results. 👍

Thank you both very much. It's taking a while but surprisingly therapeutic 🙂

Some masking film arrived last night. I'm hoping to spray most of the markings once I'm happy with the camo.

Just read this from the start. A definite WOW build. As said by the others, - your skills with the A/B are just something else. The planning that you have brought into play to achieve what you have so far is very evident in the results you have produced Andy. That mottled finish - another league. I don’t even think I would have attempted that at all.

I will definitely follow this build to the end.

Definitely very skilled airbrush work to get that effect.

Sorry Jim, somehow I keep missing your replies. You're like some kind of comment ninja 🥷 Thanks

And thanks Paul & Doug.

When I first picked up an airbrush I wondered if I'd ever get the hang of it, but after a couple of years of practice it's starting to come together 🙂

I still prefer the big guns though 😂

Thanks Ian.

I've done the camo over the whole topside now, but will keep going back to look at it in case something needs tweaking. I've tried to make the pattern more bold near the wing roots, and less so as it spreads outwards.

Since the camo seems to have gone down well with you guys I'll run through how I went about it. I'm not saying this is the correct or only way, just how I did it.

Firstly I sprayed some light, random squiggles all over:

Over on t'other side, since I forgot to take pictures, I started to join some of the lines up to make shapes:

I then started to add shapes in-between, and gradually make them bolder:

Whilst doing that I got a massive splat, either from water or paint on the needle:

So I went back in with the lighter grey-green that was in my other airbrush:

Then reinstated the camo shapes:

After dusting on a couple of light bending coats, it was done (although as I said earlier, I may touch some bits up) :

How on earth you kept your sanity when painting the mottle effect, is beyond me, But very well done.
