First off Congratulations.
I do have a question though.
You retired or changed your job?
Working 7am to 3:30pm is not what I call retired lol.
Ian. My company I worked for 25 years called it retiring they had a small send off for me and a gift because I was there so many years but the hours I have at my new job I’m going to feel like it’s semi retirement.

Good for you Lee…like Steve, I just semi retired this week after 40 years in the commercial construction and civil engineering business..

enjoy the time and life now…work to live and not live to work..that’s going to be my motto

Good move Lee.....glad to hear things will be a little easier on you from here on out. Is your little "dump" truck a 10 wheeler or is it really small? Post up a pic. If you get a chance. :thumb2:
Thanks Rick I’m already feeling the relaxation from my new job. My boss told me to take the truck home every day after work so here you go. It’s a little Peterbilt single axle dump 712D4DEA-C5C9-47DB-A591-B8678DAEBDC4.jpeg3B1DB350-D12F-4E7C-A169-047DC894E5AA.jpeg

Hello Lee,
I retired a few years ago from truck driving, all over Europe, Turkey and Russia after 30 years on the road. Never really saw my daughter grow up, went through a couple of divorces, no visits to the dentist - just wait till they wobble and pull them out, cuts and lumps had to be treated in the cab. The good side was that I got to go and see countries I would never visit, and meet some real people instead of the city folks. Do I miss it, not one minute, in the summer I can sit in the garden pretending to garden, and in the winter I can cuddle up to a warm body...
Good luck with the new job, it will be strange for a while untill you get sorted out.
Me - I drive a bench now and drive the missus crazy - but it keeps me sane.
Mike.
Thanks Mike this layed back life style is going to be different and hard to get used to.

I once had a job that involved a commute of an hour and a half each way, sometimes 3 hours if the traffic was bad. I added the travelling hours up and realised I was effectively 'working' a seven day week.
I moven house.
Pete
Pete I always felt like I was working a extra 3 hours a day at the last I was wore out when I got to work. I’m glad it’s over.

Lee, I've just signed in after being away from a few days and just read your thread title. Frightened me ridged at first, thinking you were leaving S.M.!

Great to read you are 'Back Peddling' a bit. All you need to do sooner rather than later is retire completely. Then like me and other layabouts on here you too can enjoy every week consisting of 6 Saturdays and a Sunday!

All the best to you Bud. :thumb2:

Ron
Ron your right I feel like I’m easing into full retirement I’m not the kind that can just retire and hang up my hat.

Yes Allen Monday was my first day we got rained out yesterday and I got 4 hours show up time at the dirt site then went home I never got nothing but heart ache at my last job always had to give them free time

Great move Lee, love that dump truck!
I'm also thinking about quiting my job for a few weeks now, feeling very frustrated at work for quite some time.
But it's not that easy to find anything with better conditions/pay...

Wish you the best!
Steven

Right got it!.
Nice truck as well and having it home must also mean that you can go right to a pick up or drop off, without having to 'go to the office first'.
Hope that you enjoy the new job Lee.

Happy for you Lee , the new job sounds like a lot less hassle for you . After 25 years of the 75 mile commute youve earned a nice little number and it sounds like this one is perfect . Cheers tony
Ps nice truck !

Yeah Baby..........that's what I'm talking 'bout!! Nice Rig and clean as a whistle! Does it come with a chauffer's cap? :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2: ;)
I completely get where you are coming from, but in reverse, I worked for 30+ years just six miles from my house......retired and moved to Montana and later went to work 90 miles from my house!! Four 10 hour days with Fri. Sat. Sun. off. Ended up renting an apartment and commuted only once a week. eight years later I hung it up. Miss the guys I worked with but not the JOB. Sure you will have a lot more time to play on the bench, once you get used to the new routine.

Sounds idiliic i walk 500yards to work!! Do my shift now only 8 hours 5 days aweek instread of my usuall 7/12s getting to old for it now. 22 years service last sunday 1st year of salary hence the shorter hours another 10 years to go. I hate driving and avoid it at every opertunity i use to drive an old kenworth in one of the oil yards in scotland cant imagine doing it full time not now anyway. Good luck with your new job and new found freedom

Great! Less of a commute and a cute truck :nerd: What’s not to like:thumb2:

Good for you!

Covid was a huge re-set for me. This year I have taken six weeks off, through the summer, for the first time since I was a kid. It's been great. It didn't stop people asking, can you do this or that, but I stuck to my guns! Being self-employed I always worried about turning work down, but no more.

I too am planning to wind back my work and have more time for me. I've reached what used to be retirement age, luckily in pretty good health, and will be a lot more choosy about what I do and, perhaps more pertinently, don't do.

We only get one go at this :)

Nice one Lee, looks like you've got a better work/life balance which can only be good. That little dump truck looks good too.:thumb2:
