This was a quick build to keep my Spitfire company on my office shelf. It was also used as a test bed for AK Interactive's new Air range of acrylic paints and their weathering washes/pigments.

I have to say that the AK paints are outstanding. Clearly made by Vallejo and in the same packaging but they seem to have a different formula. Like Vallejo they spray beautifully, if anything more trouble free than Vallejo. I thoroughly recommend them. In this I used their RAF WW2 Camo set.

As for the weathering washes, I love them and there is a lot of sense to using these enamel washes over acrylic paints and varnishes. I found the pigments much better than Vallejo's, much finer. The overall effect is not as good as I wanted on this kit but that is entirely my fault as I was experimenting and on my next build will do better. That said I am pleased with the way the model turned out and it does look good on my shelf next to my recent Spit.

As for the kit. This is billed as a 'new tool' but if, like me, you expected a fit as good as the Airfix new tool then you will be disappointed. There are a lot of fit issues and the wing/fuselage join in particular needed a lot of filling, sanding and shaping. The stabilisers seem also to be made for another aircraft.... But do not be put off, with a little work you can get a really nice little Hurricane and I did enjoy the build.

Some pics.

That's a lovely Hurricane Barry! The paintwork & weathering are excellent, it looks very authentic.

Cheers

Patrick

Lovely hurricane Barry and I'm pleased that the problems are universal with this kit as all the problems you faced I did but I agree this is still a good kit to build :)

Paint job is top notch

That is beautifully painted and weathered Barry, and you've inspired me to give the AKI paints a go. What did you use for your final matt coat? Looks great.

Thanks for all your comments. The matt coat was Vallejo Migrant

Great looking hurri, I especially like the skull decal and canvas over ribbing detail.Im a fan of Ak washes as well.

Stunning work, Barry. Superb painting and weathering..........absolutely well done, mate!!!! :)

Very nice Barry. Like the slightly translucent green on the camouflage. Gives a good authentic feel.

Just notice the AK paints Barry. Could you tell me more (if there is ). What improvement in actual finish is there. I take it that they are also better with smaller needle/nozzles and if so must be good for close and detailed work. Also the washes are these acrylic or enamel.

First of all thanks everyone for your comments.

Laurie

I find the AK paints having all the good points of Vallejo Model Air but better. They also brush well.

Most of all though I like the colour sets. I have never been totally happy with the Vallejo paints for selecting RAF camo. The colours just seem right to me with AK and they are adjusted for scale effect. Using these sets take guesswork out of the colours.

I have the RAF Luftwaffe (2 sets) and the new IJN set. They are bringing out new sets regularly and the colours will be individually available soon.

The washes are enamel and again they are good to work with and can provide some great effects. Lots of online tutorials are available on using them. John has them in the shop look under weathering sets including for the paints.

Very good building and painting, I like finishing and weathering.
