Hi all
A little progress. The cockpit with its PE is done. Ever so tiny at this scale although that might just be comparing it with the 1/32 scale helicopter which is also cluttering up the bench :thinking:








My only worry is that the PE might affect the fit of the cockpit within the fuselage halves. Methinks some fettling may be needed.

Hi Jim nice, I'm getting some purplish tones on the PE and seatbelts...are they that color or could be my computer setting.

Richard - my colour vision is off but the wife assures me the belts are blue in the flesh :thumb2:

Slow, slow progress
Fuselage halves together. Pretty good fit. The filling was only really needed as there was a slight 'gully' along the join.




Lost a few panel lines.

... but encouraged by other people I rescribed. Went well :thumb2:


Front wheel well needed some work. EP mark and both ends needed covering with thin card as the join was poor and it was easier than filling.


The instruction didn't say it was a tail sitter but some weight was added. Folded lead sheet above the front wheel well and some shot in the cowling.

Hadn’t realised quite how small this is!
Lovey tidy work with the photo etch bits and a nice recovery with the panel lines :thumb2:

Building a wingy thing myself at the mo so appreciate how much effort is needed all the way through the build to keep it all neat and tidy for paint.

It is, get as much lead in as possible. If you can, check its centre of gravity. I ended putting lead in the leading edges of the wings on my build.

Don't skimp on the weight! I thought I'd put loads in my AEW!

I agree with Peter, I can never see a glue mark on any of Jim's builds, your always so tidy Jim.
The size of that cockpit is really shown in comparison to the blade.

Thanks for the support and advice.
Colin and Dave - took your advice and I've put in extra weight, hopefully enough :rolling:
Tail and wings are on. Fit was great. Well done Trumpeter :smiling:
Upper and lower wings, excellent fit.


Wings and tail on the fuselage. Again a great fit.




Flaps needed ejector marks filling.


But now we have a c*** *p - partly mine but mostly Trumpeter's!!! :angry:
Under the rear fuselage there is a "thing". Presumably some kind of submarine looking for radar??? Parts C38 and C36


I fitted it - all neat and well fitting. Unfortunately this 'whatsit' hangs lower than the wheels. I assume that it is retractable and is only extended for use in flight. The pictures of the completed model even show that it can't be in the down position on the ground.




Trumpeter do not mention that part C36 only needs to be partly slid into part C38 if the model is intended to be displayed on the ground.
Wheels dry fitted.


I'll probably have to razor saw part C36 and shorten it. Pain in the bum but ...

Great work jim. The retractable ‘ dustbin ‘ radar is indeed only extended in flight , perhaps trumpeter are hinting that it could be glued partially extended to prevent tail sitting as pete says!

Using tape, razor saws and holding my breath 'tis done :smiling:




Cut the domed end off.


Reattached the dome.




It will need filling but not much. The radar now will not foul the ground as it is 8mm higher.


Sorry about the colour cast in the photos. Camera set for the daylight bulbs in the photo booth - forgot to alter it for the bench lighting :thinking:

Very handy that they don’t indicate to fix it in the “up” position if you’re building the model on its wheels, but the fix looks like it’s gone well Always tricky, doing this kind of surgery on a (part-)built model.
