Had a email from my energy supplier with my estimated dual energy bill starting in April

It's all but doubled :flushed::anguished::astonished::worried:, I knew of course thats it's rising a lot but nearly 100%!! Considering there's only us two and we are not big energy uses.

One very nasty wake up call!

Our direct debit will be almost doubling shortly too..... Not good.... Very fortunately SWMBO picked up some more hours at work in January and I got a VERY generous payrise last month otherwise we'd be in trouble.....

Our actual electricity bill was double a couple of weeks ago. I'm taking the light bulbs out at night from now on.

I understand the increases are effective with effect from 1st April; I shall be taking meter readings late the previous day and will require the energy company to bill me at the previous rate up to and including that time.

Think yourself lucky you don’t use heating oil. There is no price cap on it. It is currently at least four times the price it was about eighteen months ago. Filling our tank will cost us about sixteen hundred pounds at present, and we use at least four tanks full a year, more in a cold winter :angry: On top of that we obviously have the electricity price rises, and living rurally means we are heavily clobbered by fuel price rises as well because there is no alternative to using your car.

I feel for you with an oil bill. When we lived on the Hebrides we used oil. It was expensive and made worse with the ferry cost to get it to the island. It will be much worse now.
Our direct debit has just about doubled. We'll just pay up and moan but for some it will be the last straw.

We live in rural north Wales and the week Putin invaded coincided with our yearly bulk 2500ltr order. When I called to book, I was surprised to hear the supplier had already been informed that sudden demand meant they would likely need to send their own vehicles to load. This meant further increased cost. We rang around other suppliers and that indeed was the case! We were told that although the price of 67ppl was given to buyers two days previously, since then they could no longer give a litre cost guarantee as it was rising dramatically. I said I would call them back. We had around two weeks supply left so we had to order some. My wife and I concluded we best not order quite as much! We rang back the next day to order just a 1000ltrs and were now also informed the normal three-day delivery window had shot up to a possible twenty-one days!!!!!!

In the end we received our delivery five days later. The bill came by post within 24hrs (normally by email within 7 days) and we were billed 122ppl. Two days later a neighbour was billed 188ppl for the same amount. I hate to think what it is now!

I switched over tariff a few months ago for a fixed two year on gas and electric however, I have been informed that a rise will be on the way.

Good news, my water bill went down for this year nearly £100.

Being on disability and a low pension we have already started tightening our belts and who knows what the costs will be back end of this year.

Fingers crossed prices will stabilise but, thinking of you guys that have no choice living out in the sticks.

Had my estimated increase yesterday - from just under £1000 pa to £1400 -not as bad as I was thinking ( I'm all electric! - no gas locally! ). I've got fancy triple glazing - and in a middle floor flat, I have upstairs & downstairs neighbours to add insulation..................

That’s outrageous. It was down to 25ppl during the first lock down. Currently dropped to about 100ppl round here. I checked this morning after moaning…..

I don't know how you guys back in Blighty get by. Here in Quebec we complain about electricity costs but in fact we are spoiled with huge Hydro electric resources. I know oil is going up everywhere but not like in the UK. Fortunately we use only electric and even with our minus 30 odd degree winters we still have reasonable bills.

Electricity will be charged at whatever the new capped rate is Steve. My original supplier went bust earlier and I’m now on a standard rate 19.70 kwh. Can’t get gas, or I‘d have it instead of oil :disappointed2:
