It was. It started out amusing me but I just got more and more angry at the sheer carelessness and sloppiness of it. Once I no longer enjoy a build I dump it - it does not happen very often but that kit is the worse I have ever touched.

I have used the provided resin exhausts, they are not great but are still better than the plastic ones.

There are two very nice resin pilot figures with the kit. Tempting but I will not be using them. Perhaps I will paint them one day just for fun

Some nasty extractor pin marks to get out of the intakes. At least they are not ‘pillars’ of plastic like some on this kit.

The undercarriage legs are not well moulded and usually I would opt for metal aftermarket but I am not prepared to risk wasting am money on this kit.

I had to apply yet more decal softener last night on the ip. Hopefully I can get on further with the ‘pit tonight.

Developing quite nicely Barry. Any thoughts on the final scheme. If it goes to a vote, desert for me.

A test fit of the wings showed a few issues that I resolved simply by cutting off two pieces that stick out from the fuselage from the wheel wells.
I won’t be cementing the wings into place yet.

Slow going at the moment.
Here is one of the irritants that are associated with Kitty Hawk
See the landing hook. Shown as one piece on the instructions, but actually two pieces, had to look for the ‘hook’ part on the sprue. A silly little thing that is caused by sheer carelessness.
I have been putting the stores together. See the Sparrow seeker head and how many extractor pins and sprue gates there are on such a small piece.
Fortunately once you have cleaned it up it is not at all bad and the fins locate into position very positively.
I will post more over the weekend.

HI Barry I see k/h still up to their old tricks of doin something this silly as you say an it shows the tail hook is all one piece but in reality two bits an I would be doin my nut thinkin where is the hook it so clearly shows in the destruckions just as well you are patience as if it was me I think it would have gone out of the window as Ive had my fill of their destuckions when I built that 1/48 jag never again
but you are doin a wonderfull job on this as you also are a very skilled modeller which I hope to try an be as good when I start my kits but i think no chance

When I looked at the photo, at first I thought the hook had broken. You must have been looking carefully at the sprues to realise that the little thingy is the actual hook bit to go on the other part …

woops, yes are quite right.

Managed to get another 10 mins at the bench to finish the cementing of the nose to fuselage. I then did a quick test fit of the wings. Not bad at all.
