Great choice of model to build, it might be a summer winter summer project though. I hope you will blog it. I have built a few of these wooden kits and had a great time with all of them.

My summer project arrived today
If you find that the wood is a bit to dry, a quick bath in warm water helps stop the planks splitting. Being so thin they often dry out so much they snap as soon as you try to bend them.

I’ve got the non-ambulance version, but am still waiting for a shop to send me the Voyager etched set I decided to buy for it about two months ago … Maybe I should send them an email.

Brought these from the local craft store yesterday, thanks to Pete Low who gave me the idea:

Hello my Friends.
Picked up one of these today and ordered a Tetra model works etched set to go with it.

The Shimakazi looks serious. All those torpedo tubes! PaulE

This came today.
First impressions are very good.
I’ve seen those boxes around, but never the insides. I presume, since it’s AFV Club, that this kit is lightyears ahead of the nice-but-1970s Tamiya effort that’s pretty much the standard for M113s in 1/35 scale?

I ordered this today to extend my skills in weathering/rusting etc...........

Got this today, I’ve been waiting for it for a few weeks now. But a slight overkill on the packaging.

Got it to go onto the Saladin I’ve built.

They worked as expected John, I always used two sized brushes for the decal work and these fit in nicely.:thumb2:

Used it on a Toon’s ip decal last weekend and no leaks or any dissolving brushes due to the solvent in Micro Set and Sol.
As they are intended for water, I think they are great for fixing pigments and maybe if a pigment fixer is fluid enough it will work too.:rolling:

Three second-hand aircraft for me:

A Matchbox Vickers Wellesley, not quite the really old kit because it doesn’t have a window in the back of the box, but it’s three colours of plastic and very yellowed decals:

This is one Matchbox aircraft I never built as a child, and a plane I’ve always liked the looks of for some odd reason, ever since seeing it in the catalog.

The F-16 I bought mainly because of the paint scheme — I don’t keep up with aircraft shows and demo planes, but this one just looked cool enough to build. All I need to do now, apparently, is find a rattle can of Ford No. 6SFE electric orange, and preferably one that doesn’t cost twice what the kit did.

As for the Privateer, I built the original Matchbox kit ages ago, and always liked it so for €15 I couldn’t really pass up on it. (Dave, if you happen to read this: if you wanted this one and I bought it away from under your nose, I’ll happily sell it on to you for what it cost me, plus postage of course :))

Thanks Fernando, I saw these advertised only this week, and was interested in how they might work with washes , oil or acylic. Do you think the oil wash might be too strong for the tip ?
John .

Jakko,
nice find, on the Wellesley - it makes you wonder how many more of the original Matchbox kits are lurking out there.
As for the Privateer, I'm tempted, but I'll resist, a large 1/72 plane won't really fit in with my collection - thanks for the offer!

Indeed. The webshop I got it from listed a couple of others as well, but I decided against getting them too — for now :) Though I must say I’m always ambivalent about building very old kits like these.

OK, I’ll see about building it myself then, one of these days years :)

Received at the end of last year. Just able to post now. I'll see if I can get to starting the TOON this weekend.

Think the tip can handle any oil or acrylic wash, maybe have to thin it a bit since it has to go through the whole brush….
If you plan to use only one colour per brush it’ll be a time saving endeavour, changing the colours might be a real PITA of the cleaning involved.:rolling:
If it works let us know John.

Have you looked at Hataka HTK-A282 Dutch Demo Orange (light)?
Don’t know about accuracy or how it ends up as I still have to use it on the same kit as yours…but some forum members have used Hataka before to good effect.
