Scale Model Shop

Latest Acquisitions (2022)

Now that business travel is starting to pick up again I hope to get more model shop visits done. If all goes well my next stop will be Stoppel in Copenhagen.
Sorry to say but Stoppel hobbies has closed! :-(
The owner died after a long illness and had no one to take it over. I only found out while hunting for Christmas present wishes.
A great loss to the modellers of Sealand.

Well that’s a sad blow. I’d only recently (early 2020) had the chance to visit his shop after all the years of visiting CPH. I did think he was getting on in years and was well past retirement age.
Thanks for the advice.

So nothing special, more of a lessons learnt issue......

.....when you're in the middle of cleaning an AB and have the needle cover off, do not, under any circumstances drop the AB point down onto a very hard surface.......:tired::tired::tired::crying::crying::crying::crying:

....fortunately the Iwata needles are about a 1/3 of the price of the nozzles....let's not get into how I know that!! :tired: :crying:

Interestingly though (at least I think so), I don't actually have an Iwata AB. Officially, my 0.2mm AB is a Tamiya Superfine AB (74514) but a number of the parts are actually Iwata, including the important bits like needle and nozzle (link). So when you consider this was well under £100 I don't think I did too badly - until of course you break bits........:sad:

Commiserations, Andrew. I reckon everyone should consider having a spare needle to hand.

I got my first airbrush just last year. And inevitably, when first trying to use it, I clogged it up right-royally.

And inevitably, while dismantling it to get it working again, I bent the needle. And of course, I had no spare needles, so I couldn't get straight back on that hoss to continue working out how to use it.

By the time a replacement needle arrived, I was back at square-one - and did it all over again, including bending the needle! Second time around I ordered two replacement needles, and so far I've not needed that second spare.

To anyone starting out with an airbrush I'd say - get a spare needle right from the off!

You make a good point. Fortunately I've been very lucky on that front up until the be accident. I leave to use an AB using the cheap Chinese jobs that came with my compressor, so if I did bend anything it wasn't going to cost a fortune to fix.

I’ve never yet damaged a needle, but I always pull the needle out before dismantling the air brush for cleaning. It’s far less vulnerable when it’s out of the way…..bet I damage it soon after saying this though…..

I normally do Tim. Not sure that happened this time around.... Learnt the lesson!

Many thanks to Paul aka Prichard1 for sending me a disc with some top information on Italian vehicles, soldiers and equipment and a whole lot of very useful reference material.

Also treated myself to this a very useful foam cutter at a very good price.

I made this a while back - it's still one of the best models that I've had the pleasure of assembling - not a shake & bake, but really enjoyable!

Read a few good reviews about it, got a full etch kit coming for it just because I'm a glutton for punishment lol.

Made a quick raid on Amazon's we-can't-be-arsed-storing-it-gizza-quid section.

As many of you know I have no 'workstation" or mancave as such, but simply use a battered coffee table in the sitting room while The Enemy watches Masked Strictly Ice Celebrities Bake Pottery Island. This leaves me a bit disorganised and relying on a toolbox and regular stretching for tools and brushes.

Found this for £1.50 on Amazon, 3mm MDF, bit of a formaldehyde whiff, but to my surprise, unwarped or damaged. Went together quite nicely (given no real instructions), although I am the Flatpack King. This will perch nicely on the table and I'll have things to hand.

Also found this for a penny buried in their chuckaway books bin. Don't know if it's a recommended read or not.

Nowe there's a bargain buy :thumb2: think I'm gonna have to find that amazon section.

Oh dear, now I'll have to have a look as well, down the rabbit hole he goes :smiling:

A friend of a friend apparently picked up a 24" telly on there for a fiver on Boxing Day. However, the friend in question is known as the source of most apocryphal tales, so I expect it was more like £50 or so. However, since the Beeb's exposé on their refuse policy, I think there is more ex-stock to be found now than there was.
