In all seriousness, it's not a plane I know a lot about....I read somewhere it was referred to as 'the flying suitcase' because it was so narrow..... No idea if that's really a post-war nickname ....... And I thought it can't be that narrow......I put the fuselage halves together at lunchtime and was proved VERY wrong!!!

Excellent buy andrew , especially with the spit book thrown in . The Hampden was certainly called the flying suitcase during the war and like you say , it is VERY narrow . Always liked these too and if one came around at the right price I would defo go for it , for a long time Ive wanted to do one in Soviet colours - a fairly easy conversion just involving changing the upper gun to a shvak and altering the fairing slightly. Hi All,

2 new acquisition's here in Bamberg. One good and one bad. I have never in my 67 years, owned a kit of this iconic vehicle in any scale, so it was about time to get one,


Very nice kit and.......Damn, you get John Wayne in it too!!!.....


Well ok, maybe if you paint him up right, he could pass for the Duke....And then there was was this nasty surprise early yesterday morning after a lousy nights sleep,


Lucky me!!! No real bad effects of yet, but quarantine isn't my thing either. Seems to be going around in our neck of the woods lately though...........The bright side with luck, more table time for me....................

I was pretty pleased with it, even without the book and the new decals. As I said they go for what are ridiculous prices for the quality of kit they are. For example, I picked up an Eduard Weekend Edition 110 from John £11.69 in October 2020 and as you can imagine that is light years ahead of the Hampden.

I just saved an eBay search on "Airfix Hampden" and waited for one to come along that wasn't going for stupid money, which was probably only a matter of a few weeks. I was lucky though because I think this popped up as a "by it now" for £11 +p&p (not £10 as I thought).

I got into a bit of an exchange with the seller and it turns out he purchased 200 Osprey books for £100 and so gives one away with each kit. As regards the decals he replied:

"...the original ones were perished and badly split. I contacted Airfix and they sent.me the new ones. We have a good rapport with them as we have three Airfix/Corgi ambassadors that record all our aircraft. That's why we have three new planes coming out including our Gannet and Sea Prince"

I have no idea who the "we" or what an "Airfix/Corgi ambassador" is but I have seen some pretty ropey decals in other kits going for much more and so he's done me a big favour and saved me laying out on fresh decals.

Good morning

So these arrived yesterday. The thing I most wanted was the JU 88G tail because apparently the kit one is too small. I also needed the canopy masks.

The camo masks are not something I normally bother with but I ordered one when I had to pack out an order in April to meet the minimum order amount and as these are only £2 each I thought why not and also to make the most of the P&P I had to pay!

That reminds me of a balsa kit my father and I built when I was little. It crashed on its maiden flight I don't know who was more disappointed me or my dad as we walked dejectedly home.

Just been given a Hachette mid-production Tiger 1 in the hope I can make something of it :thinking: It comes in a large cardboard box full of part works, a folder containing the first 100 parts instructions, a badly finished turret, and a hull with full running gear and tracks on one side. The engine and transmission are 'finished' as well. Interior detail is questionable in some areas at first glance and the Zimmerit is ... dire! Hull length 15" Won't start it until the New Year as I'm pushing three GB's that will take me up to near Christmas.

Scheme of things is as follows:
1. Check for completeness of components then decide whether it's a viable project.
2. If viable: Disassemble previously built modules, clean up and rebuild.
3. Having decided on level of detail: Continue build, scratching as required.
4. Paint, mount on a simple scenic base then Mag to grid - get rid!

Will post pictures once under way and post build progress. Wish me luck! :smiling5:
