So the last show of the year before Christmas for the club. This is held in north London and so is a bit further south than we normally go.
The sponsoring company has merged the model show and a trade fair for collectable toy soldiers and other figures. This means there is a higher footfall than for a model show on it's own and so it created quite a nice atmosphere
The collectable scene is something I have not really come across before and so it was interesting to see something a different. What I was not expecting was the price that people were willing to pay for what in many cases were actually pretty poor quality figures and vehicles.
One manufacturer (1/30 scale) - albeit of the best quality there - had single painted figures going for £80 and up. Their version of Rommel's staff car and two figures was going for £295...£295!!......and their Landing Craft Mechanised and three figures was £700 I fully appreciate each to their own but the prices paid for the very average quality - certainly compared to even an average injection moulded kit - was baffling in many cases.
Three people from the club attended and whilst none of us entered the competition, we had a strong finish to the day as...........our club table won the best club display award! According to the judges, we won because of the diverse range of kits we had on display.

Our clubs award winning table...you might just recognise few of these builds!
You'll see we have small label for most kits explaining what they are and also adding a bit of context in some cases. It's something our club secretary has been doing since I have known him and so I've started to copy in in the past year or so. It also gives a talking point for anyone who stops at the table.
I hope you'll agree that it's a reasonably diverse display.
Probably my favourite kit of the day but there was some great models on display.
This was a close second, although I have seen it before so knew what to expect this time
