Scale Model Shop

Malayan Emergency 1/35 scale.

Incredible project, Richard. Following your progresses is a delightful activity.
A semiserious proposal: have you considered the option of a soundtrack to your dio? I'm pretty sure those monkeys are not going to assault those humans without bellowing their war cry. :rolling:

Wabble you and Neil are the surgeons of figures . It always fascinates me the way you manage to make such changes .

I am so jealous of your figure moding skills.
And I'm jealous of your bling bling skills:smiling2: Scottie.

Thanks Andy, well I definitely won't be adding a soundtrack of a Kookaburra, a mistake old Hollywood movies make.:smiling6:

John, I'm guessing that Neil and I are gory movie fans and graduated from the same school of 'plastic' surgery.:tears-of-joy:

More decapitations coming up...

The following are three in their proposed positions minus their heads and arms on and near the armoured car.

Two would have turned heads while the one facing the ambush will be laughing his head off at the spectacle. Heads are from Hornet, Brodi and Alpine. Figures are from Miniart, MB and Tamiya.

Hi, I thought I'd show results of the staghorn process...I didn't like the outcome of the main branch preferring the side little ones so I've done a more spindlier one...
20230221_215809.jpg20230221_215820.jpg
So while that was curing I made up a knob of putty to fill the figure armature spaces as well as try my hand at sculpting the hanging banana combs...
20230221_150841.jpg20230221_150852.jpg
Turned out okay. I used a thick gauge wire for the stem core.
20230221_215551.jpg
I then sculpted the flower end. It's actually a purple maroon onion like shroud that peels and underneath each petal is a row of flowering stigmas that become a comb of bananas.

So far I've made two.

Incidentally these petal like shrouds make good vege curries. The young banana shoots are like boiled cabbage but with flavour and substance. Cooked with coconut cream, tumeric, chilli and spices...yum yum.

All sing.... yes we ave no bananas..... I'll get me coat.

Wabble they look good enough to eat mate. Nicely done.

'Scuse me Wabble, but you didn't mention the particular variety of banana you were sculpting and the "banana counters" would like to check the accuracy of your efforts with said sculpts against their "technical" drawings as well as any applicable reference material that would contribute to arriving at a logical conclusion as to the depicted images in the above thread.........just getting me coat....TAXI!! :tongue-out2:

All said and done, your bananas look incredible.......I'm sure that once painted and weathered(?) they will be very realistic and the Primates will be after them! ;)

There's no end to what you'll have a go at Richard. Monkeys, ferns, bamboo, bananas to say nothing of the figure adapting. Great work as always.

He's off again about food ! Wabble please stop this , as it's making me hungry again .
Bananas look good, never knew about the flower , thank you .
Staghorn , now you've got that off well ,both the leaf part and the thinner lower section, how have you managed that , PVA ?

...We have no bananas today... thanks mate, I wonder what resin tastes like.:smiling2:

Rick, I think they could either be Berangan or Rastali owing to their size.

Thanks...I have the option of painting them ripe or still green. Resin bananas for resin primates.

Thanks Jim, trying new things is exciting and lucky for me they have turned out okay.

Everything is edible in the jungle if you know what to look for, watch what the animals eat and thanks John.
Yes it's PVA applied with a tooth pick.

Just to give you all a sense of what the bananas look like on the tree I have roughly placed them on the tree I'm working on...

The trunk looks short is because I'm doing a forced perspective of the tree emerging from creepers off a slop.

Bloody marvelous old chap!

Richard

This is outstanding attention to detail and persistence. Each bit you add, excellent in itself, is adding to an overall terrific dio.

Thank you John b. Living in the tropics, if I can't get jungle looking as it should be would be an injustice besides my morning hiking treks through the hills give me lots of inspiration. There's always something new round the corner.

Good thing I posted the banana tree on my local chatgroup and was told a banana tree bares a single bunch of fruit at a time. I will replace the other bunch with a flower stalk and place the extra bunch into the truck to provoke the monkeys.

Cheers,
Wabble

Sounds like fun Richard......just don't leave the keys in the truck ignition or the little beasts will be out "joy" riding and having a banana feast at the same time! ;) :tears-of-joy:

Just to show how the petals reveal the little combs of banana...
