Scale Model Shop

Malayan Emergency 1/35 scale.

The monkeys are coming along nicely Richard, as others have said, not something you see often in dioramas, it'll be interesting to see how they fit in.

Thanks Graeme and Mick and you're welcome Neil.

I have picked up the courage to go headlong into the bamboo. So far so good with the initial base leaves. The trunks were imbeadded into the side after digging a hole and filling with two part putty. I may trim some of the smaller trunks and reposition them forwards. Then adding smaller leaves and the other bamboo bought from the stationery shop.
Here are the images...

And from the top...

Will let these few leaves take hold when the glue sets and then I'll push on with the rest.

Your vegetation Wabble goes from strength to strength, Bamboo esp.

Ooh that looks SO good Richard!

Thanks Neil and John, I haven't done bamboo before so its still iffy for me. If you're talking about the spider hunter then she's already nesting but if you're thinking to put one in the dio, that's a great idea. In the jungle there would be a few hanging from the same tree.

Blimmin Eck that's realistic!! :smiling3:
Thank you Andy and I haven't done the additions...hope it doesn't spoil the effect. Lots of empty spaces to fill in the back. Lallang or tall Saw grass at the base, ferns and what-nots.

Richard,
excellent mate.
Thanks Scottie, appreciate that.

I have gotten the glass case and framed base for the dio to sit in and be protected. It was a real quickie, with measurements taken and a safety half inch added all round to the measurements I popped into the frame shop which was just round the corner to where I had lunch with old friends. We usually take turns to market the fresh fish, crabs and prawns and have the lady at the eatery cook up curries for us. Here are some pictures of the prawn dishes...

Okay back to the glass case... I frequent this frame shop and the price is affordable, what surprised me this time was he said he could do the whole thing in half an hour and asked if I'd like to wait. It started to rain so I said why not. This is it on my work table...huge isn't it or my work space is small. :smiling6:

Now I don't have to worry about dust and cat fur when working on it.

Fabulous, just fabulous. Everything from the overall idea, to detail, to display. That is fast becoming a truly great diorama.

Wabble strange that you cook the complete prawn with head.

Love the frame, think it cost a lot here to have that made.

Just caught up with all this and especially the monkey progress. Not a massive fan of them in real life, a troop tried to steal my phone, laptop and book in Bali. Much more of a fan of yours though!

Ditto... and those prawns!:blow-kiss:

Thank you Tim, Andy, John R, Paul and Jack.
The idea kept shifting as I progressed and has made certain executions difficult like suspending the monkeys on the long vines...that's going to be a test. Hope nothing goes wrong.:tongue-out3:

Ditto my comments.:tears-of-joy: Ya, I started drooling seeing those pictures again.

That's the best part where you suck all the juices...flavourful. It's a SEA thing. It cost about 25 quid.:smiling2:

I nearly think so.:smiling6:

We keep our distance here as well as they're known to attack in packs. I think you're safe if you don't carry food and don't approach the mummy with the cute little offspring. I'm still halfway through the dio so lots more to see in the next three months. Have a deadline for June.

Thanks Jim, don't know why this time the glass corner tape is so broad.

Added more leaves and shoots and only 50% done on the bamboo.

Started on my banana trees with base painting of the leaves. Will vary the shades with filtering and washes. When that is done will concentrate on the trunks.

Basically this is where the banana trees will be strategically placed that caused the ambush. Don't ever get in the way of monkeys.

Doing the bananas separately and attach later.
