Music while building

Julie Fowlis was new to me but I like folk music so I'll give her a go tonight!

i came across her a few years ago on a folk prog on BBC Radio 2........loved her music ever since even though i dont understand a word of gaelic

i know the rest of Scandanavia view the Finns as being a bit 'odd' but i assume you know of Steve n Seagulls?

We from the north view them pretty much just like our neighbours. Neighbours that all drink vodka and carry long knives that is... hehe :p
Steve n Seagulls are well known in my neck of the woods and I know of several similar bands that just aren't on social media but still well known, and I love that type of twist between folk music and modern rock/pop/whatever!

Music is deeply rooted in most of Scandinavia and especially in the north. In my days virtually all kids played an instrument in school. It was just the norm.
That way a lot of talent was picked up. Today this is no longer the case and the instruments are swapped with console hand controls and very few kids actually get the opportunity to play an instrument, and this only if the parents do this. School have long since stopped doing this which is very sad...

I've been watching here with interest and I got an observation.

I may not be the world's greatest rock fan (I do listen to a lot of music but not while I'm at the bench), but even I know you don't go to a rock concert to sit quietly in your seat then give an appreciative round of applause at the end (It's not like the b****y Opera fer gossake!). You should be jumpin' about, stampin' your feet, chantin', head bangin', playin' air guitar or drums - or any combination.

If you're doing any of these, I can't see how you can be doing any modelling - an' if you ain't doin' 'em - you ain't listenin' to rock!

I enjoy listening to music while working. It makes me think properly and feels more relaxed. ;)

I always stick my mp3 player on with my headphones so one minute it could be vivaldi the next Motorhead ;)

Thread resurrection.

I listen to music while I'm painting - always.

Currently got two faves: Sault and Gene Clark. Wildly different, I know. They're intermixed with Sandy Denny, Toumani Diabate and the Symmetric Orchestra, Chicago (the first two albums, before they went MoR), early Beverley Knight, Scott Walker, Trojan compilations - all sorts of stuff!

Music, and tea, are essential for achieving the Zen state required for painting miniatures!

I always use Spotify - after a while, analysing your taste, it generates a 'daily mix' which includes your favourites, and introduces you to new artists. It can be quite annoying - sometimes you think 'that's good' and have to get up and see who it was. I use the free version - it has adverts, so what? So did Radio Luxembourg when I was a kid!

I normally don't have music on when I work 'cos it's a distraction. I love music, all types and am more inclined to tunes and melodies than lyrics. Lately I've been paying attention to lyrics and discovering why some singers have become famous for their writing.

Cheers,
Richard

Spotify is my go to platform for music whilst building.

My range is so vast that it really depends on my mood. Although nothing RnB or pop.

I tend to stick to rock and metal though. So that could be anything from Jinjer, Slipknot, Linkin Park and Staind through to Dire Straits, Stereophonics (older stuff) and Limp Bizkit. There is so many bands in my saved list that naming them would take up far too much space. I love finding new bands and just recently i have been listening to a lot of Russian bands.

Having said that though i am a big fan of Runrig, Skald and Eivor.

Even @John Race would approve of one of the songs.... Zywiotak - World of Tanks Studzianki Soundtrack

Search for AlanG on spotify to see it all lol

Me, I listen to pretty much anything from Mozart to Motörhead. I have a large vinyl and CD collection and a decent system to play them on.
Usual build and paint music is Planet Rock or Classic FM on the Alexa speaker though. Although CFM annoy me by playing parts of whole works (and the godawful Onedin line theme tune). On Saturday afternoons I might ask her to move to five live for the football.

Classic FM or lots of Elton John or the bugles of the light infantry. Like my lovely dad like military bands

Here at the Towers Bench I sometimes have JJ Cale, EC, AC/DC on CD. Most of the time nothing, just the sound of muttering and the odd Anglo-Saxon swear word.:smiling3:

Snap.

I've never got into streaming music. And having seen analyses which suggest it's bad for musicians and worse for musical diversity, I'm very glad I never did! I'm happy to continue buying CDs and the odd bit of vinyl.

Luddite from Devon checking in here.......
Not interested in streaming music:poop:.... i`m still buying CD`s,just gotta have the real thing in my hands, and know that,as long as i look after it,it`ll be mine forever:thumb2:!
Can`t abide listening to the radio either.... got fed up with either, listening to pathetic adverts,or DJs/Presenters with far to much drivel to say:loudly-crying: ,
Gimme W.A.S.P. AC/DC,Metallica,or Sisters Of Mercy etc and i`m happy.... especially when i`m,(Badly),singing along to "OFFSPRING"!!:money-face:

You're not alone there but out of respect for the remote chance that someone actually listens to that stuff I'm not saying anything more... ;)
Y'all need to listen to some Good Ol' Boys - yeehah! Little bit of Cajun or Faron Young, Folk, Classic Country - BUT - some Enya, Clanaad, Mozart , Wagner- anything but (C)Rap, Garage or similar genre :poop:

Despite my loyalty I rate he best military bands as HM Royal Marines and the Light Infantry (In all their iterations!). Classic FM does it for me as well Bob!
